I remember the pistol's last game for LSU...very disappointing, I waited all day to watch him play Marquette and he was only able to take 9 or 10 shots because they doubled teamed him with a pressing, triangle and two defense all over the court, denying him the ball, and when he did get it they turned him over. He made only 20 points and most were free throws.....I remember one of the three that pressed him said they had a film clip of him dribbling and studied every move to develop a strategy on his move to the left.....the game was in the NIT in MSG in New York 1970 .

Here the GOAT is telling the Bama student section how he feels with a double barrel bird! Love it!

He also missed a year, because freshman were not allowed to play on the varsity team back then.
I was in High School - could get into the Cow Palace free - pack it for the freshman game and leave with most others when Pete left the court.
Pete was a show every game - watched Pete play against Kentucky and tucky won but Pete got 66 if I remember right. Kentucky had a big white dude that got like 55.

LSU is fortunate to have two bona fide legends (Cannon and Maravich) who seem like they were just myths.

An athlete’s passing has never effected me like Pete. His skills tapes are still the best for the youngsters.
RIP Pistol
Thanks for the memories

Pistol Pete's game was way ahead of its time.

To me, the greatest basketball player of all time

Best basketball player EVER. BUT the blacks say No
No, they don't. Pete Maravich's skill and style influenced many of the greats, no matter their race. I wish I could recall (or find the link to) a televised program I saw where quite a few african american BB greats talked about how Pete influenced their game.

Last white guy to win scoring title in the NBA. That's a long time folks.

Not saying you should sell it because I never would! That is one of, if not, the most expensive and treasures lsu merchandise you can sell. Speaking of Pistol Petes signature of course

You're right. That was an ignorant and redneck statement. Any HOF basketball player black or white I've ever seen interviewed spoke of Pete as what he was, period.

When Pete played players were required to keep their entire hand on top of the basketball when dribbling or risk being called for carrying the ball.
The first time he did his flashy move where he's dribbling and waves his hand over the bouncing ball, then slings a pass in the opposite direction, a ref called him for "travelling"...
Pete burst out laughing, and told the ref "that wasn't travelling, I know the rules. You just blew a whistle because it was something you've never seen before".

I saw him play 3yrs in the Cowbarn and his entire career with the Jazz-- Still can't believe the moves and shots he made.

Also one of the last NBA scoring champs to speak fluid English. Times have changed. The game has gone international like nobody ever could have imagined back then I would have to think
