re: Has Ensminger’s $50k bonus been discussed yet?

poor RZ scoring you can damn well bet this guy and this board would have given E hell and trashed him unmercifully.
119th in the country in TD percentage in the red zone is poor.

119th in the country man. 119th
That stat makes you want to throw up. To Ensminger's credit, LSU was 13th in red-zone attempts per game (for reference, that was tied with Clemson). However, NO ONE settled for more FG's than LSU (Syracuse was tied for redzone FGs)
I get it. The field shrinks when you get to the 20 and it can be tough to punch it in. Particularly, if you don't have a great RB. But that is when your HC/OC has to be willing to accept some risk (a TO) in order to go after the bigger reward (a TD). If you can't simply just pound the ball in on the ground (like previous LSU teams would do with Guice, Fournette, Hill, etc), your OC has to scheme some plays to bust guys open in a shortened field. Did LSU run any kind of rub-routes ("picks") in the redzone? Play actions with a mis-direction bootleg by the QB?
Unfortunately, I feel like O/E fell into the same trap Miles was in. They were so terrified of a turnover that they were willing to accept 3 vs. taking on some risk to go after 7. That complacency was only made "worse" by the fact that LSU had a kicker who was automatic inside the 40. He was O's crutch.

if we had had turnovers and poor RZ scoring you can damn well bet this guy and this board would have given E hell and trashed him unmercifully. besides, 50k is chump change as a bonus for a very good year.

No comment on his bonus, but red zone TD % is an extremely better gauge of an offense than overall red zone scoring %.
We were 12th in the SEC in red zone TD %. Awful.

First, how does an OC get credit or blame for offensive turnovers? I don't get that. Burrow was pretty good with his decision making this year and our skill players held on to the ball. GREAT JOB STEVE!!!
The RZ numbers look good because the offense stalled so god damn much and we had to rely on Cole Tracy. If Culp is the kicker this year what do you think those numbers would look like? Hell, I can't remember many times we were inside the 20-30yd line and we actually took a shot at the end zone. It was that bad.
Any bonuses to this offensive staff is quite comical.

65% TD percentage should be the minimum standard. That puts LSU right in the top 1/3 of the country and conference.
ETA: This is particularly important for next season since LSU will likely have a true freshman kicker. Converting red zone opportunities into TDs may be the difference between 9 and 11 wins.

Why does it have to be one or the other. Certainly more should be expected than "well at least they didn't turn the ball over." Why can't LSU fans expect the team to maintain a good red zone percentage while scoring touchdowns.

Who gives a frick how much coaches are paid? It’s not your money.
Posted on 1/10/19 at 11:10 am to Tigerdew
I personally dont have a problem with any of those except for turnovers lost. That would seem to handcuff an offensive game plan.

Jesus. Some of you may be certifiable.
I don't think the OP complained about the amounts. Just that he was rewarded for 1 misleading stat and another he really isn't responsible for.

It's 2019 now. LSU has not done better than a 3 loss regular season. Ed Orgeron has hired a staff of old friends and geriatrics
Are they competent? If so what difference does it make how old?
What was the time frame stated for winning championships?

, he'd already be fired for cause
Do you really expect a coach that just won 10 games with a top five recruiting class to be fired. This is the time that I normally tell people off. I've decided to stop with insults as best I can but can you not see how utterly ridiculous your post is?

Because this never happens.

Maybe we should come up with a miracles play which can block Bama's DL long enough to get a damn pass off?
Start with getting a couple of tackles.
Go back and watch LSU's OL play in that game. Start with Adrian Magee. After watching that total abomination of blocking you give all of us a magic play which would have worked that night.
All you smartasses think there is some
Secret Play or something but there isn't. I don't care who the OC is until
LSU has enough quality OLs (particularly Tackles) things will be the way they are.

Is that what he was hired and is paid 3.5 million to do? Serious question.
Do you think that Ed Orgeron went in that office with that binder and you open the front cover and it says "building a 10 win, 3 loss program - and fast?"
2015 - Les Miles - finished with only 3 regular season losses, except he had the #2 overall recruiting class.

I didn't claim it was good or bad. I posted the numbers.
I said that LSU wasn't terrible and they weren't. There's a lot of room for improvement. You keep pointing to those numbers that you want to harp on. I don't give a frick what you post.

Are you sure that you've got the name right. There were linemen getting pushed into Burrow as he was dropping back. He had no time to throw.

Les had 2 losses out of 4 with a team which was playoff caliber.
Les was brought back with the understanding things would change and improve. Instead he stayed with Brandon Harris (a Sunbelt level QB) and lost 2 games in the 1st 4 which LSU should have won.
The wheels were about to come off the LSU Football team and Orgeron took over and salvaged what he could.
In addition, Orgeron inherited a team with limited QB potential and one with insufficient OL numbers and quality.
Orgeron has had to go the transfer route to bring in some key players otherwise LSU may have been a 6-6 team as predicted by damn near everybody.
If you don't acknowledge the good job Ed Orgeron is doing then you are simply full of hate and who cares because most fans who actually know what was going on with LSU and what Orgeron faced understand the job that is being done by this staff.

People wanted and expected Les Miles to be fired following 9-3 with a number 2 class.
Acting like that's now the benchmark for safety of the head coach is kind of dumb.

Yes. I AM POSITIVE. Go back and watch Magee on the goal line where Burrow was almost sacked. Burrow may have had 2 seconds. Magee at Right Tackle was a disaster all night.
