But suddenly he is out of favor on this board? I'm confused. How did some of you guys change your minds so quickly about someone with such a long history of serving this country honorably? Because of one letter?

No one mentioned Mattis this morning and this is a bum argument.

If Mattis does not want our troops home after 17 years and pointless reasons, it is time for him to go.

They disagree with him on an issue. He is a man that is worthy of great respect and that will continue with the vast majority on this board

You are exaggerating for effect

I am thankful for General Mattis and his role in the Trump administration. I believe it is now evolving into a different leadership to get us out of some of these conflicts. It’s just like major corporations hiring a different CEO for an acquisition or merger. The old CEO only knew the “old way”.

Mattis is a warrior. Warriors don’t want you to interrupt their war. One can admire Mattis and prefer peace .

I’ve been critical of him for nearly a year on here. So no idea what you’re talking about.

I've always been "meh" about him. He's a cool guy and all with some good quotes, but what really matters are his actions. He is pro-transgender, pro-female-in-special-forces, pro-interventionism (though not as bad as some), and a Democrat to boot.

The reasons for Mattis departure are respectable, but so are the Presidents. People trying to downplay either as naive or irresponsible are missing the point. In Syria, our strategic goals could never materialize in the region. The same goes for Afghanistan. The mission creep and moving of the goalposts over the years leaves us in a weak position. The question was not if we leave Syria and Afghanistan but when? Obviously, Mattis believes should stay longer in both these countries. I have a feeling that Trump probably doesn’t believe these politicians (specifically Presidents) have the guts to pull the plug.

I think Trump has shown more courage in the last 24 hours than I’ve seen in a President in a long time.

A) Mattis is a great Patriot.

B) He works for Trump. If you don't want to do what the boss wants, then you leave.

C) I hate to see Mattis leave and it's easily the first staff change that's going to leave a mark.

D) No one is irreplaceable.

Yep. And I think people on both sides of the aisle would have to admit this. Trump did this with both the left and right criticizing him, but he don't give a frick. He follows his own convictions and I respect that.

You're confused or trying to look at the situation through the haze of your TDS. We have no diminished respect for his service to this great country however Generals and Cabinet members are there to advise the President not to make policy. When they start to believe that they possess the power to make decisions that are contrary to the Presidents wishes or worse go public and try to manipulate the outcome it's time for them to go.
