I find It significant that so many people have put their money where their mouth is.

The American People WANT the wall. If we have to fund it privately like this, then so be it.

That wasn't me speaking as to the worthiness of the cause. That was me speaking to people blindly giving money to someone or some organization that they know nothing about. Just like the whole veteran GFM scam a few months ago.

I mean the US’s total wealth is $98 trillion with the average adult’s wealth at over $404,000 and the median at over $61,000.

Even reaching the $1 billion dollar goal would mean 0.001% using the average wealth and 0.007% using the median wealth. Or if every adult have a little over $4 it would meet its goal.

So how can we infer something is popular overall from just $4.7 million and 76,000 donations? Now it’s early so that will obviously rise, and some won’t/can’t use GoFundMe, but it brings in $140 million in donations per month so it’s not like it’s some obscure or unpopular tool.

Many do, but even with a record highs support in a poll from a couple days, 43% supported it and 54% opposed it. I mean 62% support marijuana legalization and yet nothing has been done about that either.

GoFundMe will eventually take down that page and ban that user. No way a liberal site allows a wall fund to collect a lot of donations.
This is highly doubtful. In fact, they probably want it to reach its goal since that will bring in record revenue for them, since they are a business afterall. And they know it’s not going to have much of an impact anyways, since it’s a small percentage of its total cost and cost isn’t the main issue that is preventing it.

Depending on who that is, I would donate.

I am leery of gofundme - just don't know enough about it.

Seems like it would be easy to scam

It seems like a waste of money, even if it reaches its goal. It’s going to cost far more than any GoFundMe campaign could ever achieve and it’s not being held up because of the cost anyways.

Give me one reason why a border wall is bad. Just one.

I would not write off passionate support of the Wall. It’s real. And it’s popular. And people WANT to pay for it.

Those two conclusions do not necessarily go together. No doubt people are passionate about the wall; that should come as no surprise since it was a major mantra of Trump's campaign. But that doesn't mean the wall is popular. Less than 100,000 people have donated so far...that isn't even a blip on the radar of popularity. If 1,000,000 people donate, that is still less than 1/3 of 1% of the US population.

For the record, I believe in making drastic increases in our border security and totally revamping our immigration laws....but I also believe a border wall is incredibly stupid.

We built that fence, and it was an economic and ecological disaster, while failing to curtail illegal immigration or drug trafficking by any appreciable amount. A wall will be at least 15 times more expensive, at least 15 times more destructive, and will accomplish almost nothing.

Even with a wall, we will have to increase border patrol to keep tabs on all the attempts to circumvent the wall. Let's just increase border patrol and other security measures that will actually have a positive effect, and quit obsessing over the stupid wall.

If we were to build even part of the wall, I predict we will be tearing it down within 20 years.

The government already has our fricking money to do it. They just need to allocate it to that project. It would be the same if someone started a GoFundMe to pay off the national debt.

That exists. I'll link it in a minute.
