quote:
I want him to know his value based on a God who will never abandon him, made him just the way He wanted him, and has a purpose for him. That's what I want my children to know. If they reject that, I will mourn it but it's out of my hands, but I will still love them.
Couple thoughts on this....
1) The whole "God has a purpose for me/them" thing is simply a way to remove personal responsibility for anything good or bad that happens in your life because "well, it was God's plan for me to win the lottery, get cancer, etc"...how about you take control of your life and make shite happen? Believe in yourself.
2) If what you say about your child's purpose being predetermined, what if their purpose here is actually to NOT follow God and maybe be gay?

You have this idea of people waiting around, being lazy, waiting for God to do things for them. The bible actually talks against laziness. We aren't going to raise our kids that way.
And the idea of purpose is more about even in a rotten situation, maybe a school or job you don't like, or where you live, realizing that God has you there for a reason, so sitting around moping about it is pointless and actually sin. Know the will of God, not just in your life, but His will in general, and find the reason you're in that spot.

God doesn't lead us to sin.
