Question for people who work in office buildings

What do the majority of people in large companies do? Obviously you have the managers, accountants, HR people, IT people, salesman, but what do all of the other people do?
I see/hear people talk about working on projects and presentations, but what exactly does that mean? I've never worked in that environment, and it just seems like there would be an awful lot of redundant, unnecessary positions.
To me at least it seems most offices are much more like Office Space than not.

The answer is IT. Our IT department has tripled in size in 15 years.

You wasted your 15 min break from the Wendy’s drive through on this question?

this is a very vague subtle brag

would be dependent on what the company does, no?

Just watch any Hallmark movie.
Every office job is a marketing job.
Every office job is a marketing job.

I already told you: I deal with the god damn customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

Legal, HR, financial planning, operations, risk management, executive compensation, shareholder services, 8000 different kinds of IT, secretaries, facilities management, and so on

You really don't know what a project or a presentation is?

Likely, but big companies deal with big money. If the total comp as a % of total revenue is at an acceptable level, does it matter? It’s hard for big companies to be successful in an environment where headcount is “maximized”, ie, people are hired and fired.
