rbdallas and Topwater Trout are spot on in their posts. Les was fired for his stubborn attitude. And you can't hold a 2nd year coach to the same expectations as Les. But in the next year or 2, nothing changes, you surely can.
My prediction: Like so many coaches prior, Coach O is going to dig his heels in with Ensminger, and it will cost him his job.
Look at Ensminger's career as an OC. Not impressive at all. I remember following his career, and he never lasted anywhere for more than a couple of year. He was the epitome of average to below average.
The guy quits, coaches HS, then comes back to coach TE's. Let's just say LSU is not exactly known for it's producing TE's while he was the coach. He is then elevated to OC against his wishes. He doesn't want to do it.
He's a great guy, LSU through and through. He's a terrible OC that hates his job. He can't be successful for that alone. Yet O insists on him doing the job. It will cost him, unless he reconsiders and brings in a top end OC.

“ you want to fire a coach after 2 years “
Boy, you are jumping around like crazy.
My thinking that the bar has been Lowered for what is now acceptable success in LSU football has nothing to do with wanting anyone fired. It has everything to do with the fact that if 9-3, 5-3 was not acceptable for LSU football in 2015, it shouldn’t be acceptable for LSU football three years later.
I don’t want to fire Coach O , but I do want better offensive production from him and better results in the west. Isn’t that why we made the coaching change? Didn’t we make it to be more competitive in the west and more competitive with Bama and not less?

I disagree, and Kirby Smart is only the most recent example of getting results immediately with good coaching.

2.5 years.
Look, O is here next year, and I don't think the bowl game changes that.
But if he loses 2-3 games before the end of November next year, then we should start evaluating options.
A 4th consecutive Bama loss? If he continues the 0fer against Jimbo/Mullen/Saban? That's the nail in the coffin imo. He'd never be better than 10 wins.

but he beat Kirby Smart...does that cancel out losing 2 road games to good coaches? When did losing on the road in the SEC make a coach terrible?

Cool
But he has won’t a conference championship and actually improved his team.

How many 2nd year coaches get handed a team that was routinely winning 9-10 games and gets an 8 game head start?

Fair point.
But I personally think Les left behind a bit more of a mess, and specifically some attitude problems that will take more time to overcome.

Meh, I've never heard anyone blame any year on the interim coach, but OK.

ok so we finished ranked...
2012-14/12
2013-14/14
2015-16/17
and are ranked 11th now and with a bowl victory will be top 10 and you say hell no this won't be our best season since 2011 if we win...how does that work?
Posted on 12/6/18 at 1:49 pm to SammyTiger
13-1
10-3
10-3
8-5
9-3
We were declining right?

true and 0-2 vs bama...doubtful he would have won his division had he been playing in the west...now if lsu was in the east we might have won 2 eastern division titles also

Probably left more talent though. Right?

I'm not saying blame, but he has more experience with the team and more influence with the team than a typical coach in his second year. I'm also considering his retainment of a good chunk of that staff.
A typical new hire coach will probably release more than 70% of a staff, including the two most important positions. O kept over 60%, including one of Coordinator roles.
To me, that makes the "let it play out timeline" different from a typical new hire head coach. He didn't make nearly as many changes.

Would you rather be 0-1 vs. Smart with trips to the Championship Game and SEC Champ twice? or 1-0 with literally nothing else to show for it?
