It's all about power and money. Both sides want it but can't coexist.

In order to get the power and money, they have to have a narrative.....generally Reps want to do things that are good for 'Merica and the only narrative for the Dems is to do the opposite.

Conservatives, generally, want to adhere to the Founders’ ideals on government. Yes, there were differing opinions during the time (see Jefferson and Hamilton or Jefferson and Adams) but not in the sense like today.

Leftists want to destroy the foundation of everything the republic was founded on. Leftists are moving further and further left, while those on the right strictly want to follow the constitution to the letter, AS WRITTEN.

This is it, the simplest and perfect explanation.

I do disagree, and my explanation is that it's not my observation that conservatives are "generally for things that make the country more productive, safer and more moral while liberals are generally more for things that make the country less productive, more unsafe and less moral."

In short, both conservatives and liberals seem to gravitate towards policies that make the country less productive and less safe. As for morality, I'll leave that subjective tar-baby for others.

With that said, I'm not interested in dealing with a Gish Gallop running through every conceivable policy issue and keeping a tally.
