I think we had to do to the money we were paying Les and the money we dished our on Aranda.

We are getting Sean Salisbury as either a coach or analyst
And the only thing we know for a fact he can scheme around is a cell phone and his zipper.

Many teams use the hurry up and a spread out, dependent on timing passing game to cover up ineffective and undersized offensive lines.
The oline issues can be schemed around.
Apparently that information hasn't filtered down to the staff yet.

Money is possibly an issue. I don't agree that hiring SE was the right move. I don't know why he did it.
But based off of what I've seen, I think he wants a modern offense. He just doesn't have the right person to do it.
Money is no issue. This is the biggest joke of this site. We are not using Ensminger because he is cheap, that is just a coincidence. We have the money to hire any OC we want in CFB or the NFL. If we don't hire one it is NOT because we don't have the money.

up tempo does not equal modern offence. Now, I really liked what we were doing last night when Burrow was in, but I'll hold off on praising the offensive progression until we show that we want to try to do those things in a real game. I do believe there's a good chance we see Burrow throw much more than we're accustom to in big SEC games because A&M's secondary is subpar at best and their run defense is STINGY. BUT, I don't believe that's a reflection of where this offense is heading. We'll pass when we absolutely need to, but don't expect us to be getting too modern outside of that.

The truth is O doesn’t know what the frick he wants to do on offense. He’s said like 5-6 different offenses he wants to emulate and then both of his hires contradict what he says he wants to do.

quote:Up tempo, spread, read option. Basically things modern style offenses do.
What are both of you calling a modern offense?
I don't think it's an issue of O wanting that style or not. I just don't think he has the right person to implement it. I think that we want to do multiple schemes. Like Bama does.

Bubble screens and regular screens. The olinemen can't move and block downfield and the receivers don't or can't block well enough for this to be effective. Otherwise it's great.

Not saying you are, but your post make it sound like you are. Other than the Georgia game and a few quarters here and there, this years offense sucks.
And that's 100% o's fault.
He's saying O wants the modern offense, but has made bad moves to make it happen. Isn't that correct? It's a combination of the wrong man for the job and the wrong personnel. We recruited tall WRs that fit more as vertical threats with limited agility and run an offense that requires more shifty, quick WRs. We use spread with slow developing plays. It's very disjointed.
It's like instead of finding one thing we can do well, we've chosen multiple things to do poorly. It lacks identity.

I personally don't think hiring Canada was a mistake. I think it was a mistake on o's part not to let Canada run his offense unfettered. But he couldn't let his ego allow Canada to have free reign last year. And nobody (to my knowledge) held a gun to o's head and forced him to hire Ensminger.
Canada at Maryland has the 99th ranked offense before the Ohio St game. It hasn't been great. 99th isn't much better than 104th.
We need someone like Briles. No one will beat Bama playing toe to toe. You have to have a mobile spread QB and an OC to implement a competent gameplan.

To be honest, in my opinion, I don't believe o knows what kind of offense he actually wants.

We agree on that.

As of today, after yesterday's games, Maryland is ranked 86th in total offense and LSU is ranked 89th. Maryland is ranked 54th in scoring offense and LSU is ranked 74th. You're right about there not being a big difference.
But the situation that Canada took over and the talent of the players he has at his disposal, in my opinion, shows how well he can do if given the time and left alone to implement his offense.
In my opinion, if Canada had been given the same chance that everyone wants to give o, LSU's offense numbers would have been much better this year than there are right now.

It’s garbage. They run a hurry up spread then once they go up by 14 points they go back to that bullshite pro style offense.
They put Brennan (a spread QB) in and had him under center running PA roll outs. Clearly that’s not what he’s good at. You play to your QB’s strengths. Something LSU never has done.

O wants a modern offense so he hires an old school OC and a 70 year old WR coach?
I think O wants the pro style offense USC used to run but that’s not much different than we have. They just had a talent mismatch in a poor defensive conference during the Carrol years.

quote:Then you haven't been paying attention. We have tried a lot of up-tempo, spread, and read option concepts. More so the last two weeks. It worked against Rice (which means nothing). And we did hurry up against Georgia as well. We've just sucked overall at it.

I think he just wanted to throw the fans a bone in a game that was decided before it started. LSU could have ran the triple option and the result would have been the same.

Well he had the opportunity to hire the right person and he didn't. So the obvious conclusion is that that he values something (likely comfort) over that modern offense.

If he wanted a “modern” offense why hire an OC who hasn’t been an OC this century?
