Good coordinators work around talent issues

Look at Aranda he has had challenges in his trenches too, yet you see our defense still perform. They may not be a stone wall, top 5 defense..but they do enough to win football games by playing to their strengths.
You can see many other teams that have shortcomings all over the lines move the ball and score against dominant teams....they do it with creativity and create an advantage.
It seems the position of some on this board is that if you give E the best OL, the best receivers, great running backs and a fifth year good senior QB...then we can expect a decent offense for one year. I would imagine that any offensive coordinator in the world would be successful when they have talent advantages all over the board.
The problem with this is we will never have the talent advantage against Alabama as long as Saban is there. Unless we want this year to be played out over the next decade, we have to have a shift in our offensive game planning. Zero points does not lie. Playing Alabama exposes us every year. But there are always signs in other games that are ignored because we win.
We have a talent advantage against all but Bama, Florida, Auburn, Georgia on this years schedule. 2-2 isnt too bad. But wont ever win championships.

I agree with 100% of your post. This same ole crap on offense is beyond tiring and the administration needs to do something about it. It seems as though everyone is tired of watching the same ole LSU offense year in and year out except for the administration and coaches.
Why?
Why?

My God, a ranter that actually gets it.
Too many would prefer to bury their heads in the sand and hide behind an 8-2 record.

Agreed 2-2 isn't bad. But LSU should have waxed that Florida team.
Excellent post.
Bad coaches make lame excuses.

THANK YOU!
My biggest problem with the "talent is the issue" crowd is they are pretty much saying that the other 90-100 schools ranked higher than us offensively all have superior talent. it's a bullshite out and can be conveniently overlooked whenever they so choose.

They have to seriously consider bringing Freeze Art Briles or Petrino in as offensive analysts. What could it hurt? Seriously any input to improve our offense would help. Those guys would only be in meetings and practice. They help gameplan and point our staff in the direction we need. No recruiting and they have no authority. It really can’t hurt.

There's no working around an atrocious OL...defenses will take away the short passing game and we will have no answer for it cause we have no time for the deep pass and a mediocre rushing game..

I am not arguing just to argue, but we have execution issues that probably trump scheme....and that is coaching.
It is a running joke, but look at the screens. They are laughably bad, there is ZERO way they are being run correctly, something is waaayyyyy off, yet it is not corrected. This has nothing to do with personnel.
I say that to say, we dont need another voice, we need someone to insure the plays are run correctly and a vision on how to set them up. This person needs autonomy.

Are you saying that we have an "atrocious" OL?
Posted on 11/12/18 at 9:26 am to Chrisb6586
And it is a crazy narrative that this line is atrocious. Atrocious is reserved for terribly bad lines. This line has deficits, but I bet by most metrics is in the middle of the pack. This is not atrocious.

Starting five guards and struggling to run the football doesn’t make much sense

This is the problem with a lot of posters here that post, "LSU is 8-2, the sky isn't falling". Yes, everyone is happy with record, but we have major issues on offense. Any one not blinded by a WIN is a WIN mentality saw this. That type of mentality is no different than the previous staff.
LSU is one of the most talented teams in NCAA, but has plenty of shortcomings. That's where Scheme/playcalling comes into play. The days of being simplistic and just out talenting teams are over...that was Miles approach and what got him fired.
If it's execution, then that is 100% on the coaches. WTF are they doing during the week? You trying to tell me that SE's offense is so damn complex that players are still struggling to pick it up? As Tiger said earlier, look at the piss poor screen game, Its laughable! Once again, when you say execution, that is 100% on the coaches!
No one is upset with the season, 8-2 is great. But if LSU is going to compete for Championships, major change needs to happen on offense.

Yes, Mo Jeaux, it is atrocious. That is the new line. And our running backs would be 4th string.

They are freaking terrible...and they have made no progress..

I watch Florida and the way Mullen gets something out of Franks and there are ways to scheme around your offensive weaknesses.
It's not going to be perfect but it can be done better than what you see on the field week in and week out.
And when you have two weeks off, you should be able to design something that can move the ball even against Bama whose defense isn't nearly as good as what they've had in the past.

Burrow was sacked three times Saturday and was hurried twice. On 24 drop backs. Not like he was getting beat up.
On the run side, we ran the read option incorrectly 4 of 5 times in the second half. The Burrow runs were designed runs. Good teams dont run plays wrong. That is not the line fault.

I've posted this numerous times over the years. The true measure of a coordinator is what they do with LESSER talent. Any coordinator can be good with elite talent.
Understand your roster's strengths and weaknesses and then devise a scheme that works with that reality.

At this point, can the analysts actually help? They might present good advice and ideas, but that won't help an offensive staff that goes into a game without any clue as to making adjustments, and out maneuvering a quality defensive staff. It's like watching a Miles' offense without a fullback. The same lackluster offense that enters the game finishes the game whether they get stopped or not.

That offense does not affect their bottom line.

I don't buy this line. Great coordinators do, but good coordinators get exposed as simply not being great.
