Interestingly, it doesn't appear that he was charged with taking the deer on the NWR, even though that is why he was initially investigated. His charges are for no bow license, not reporting the deer and for transporting the illegally harvested deer to another state.
Anyone know what the "intentional concealment of illegal wildlife" is referencing? Just that he didn't turn himself in when he knew he had harvested it without a license?

Agents arrested Blake J. Rigby, 25, for hunting without a bow license, failing to comply with deer harvest record requirements, intentional concealment of illegal wildlife and violating interstate commerce regulations.
In October of 2018, LDWF agents received a complaint about Rigby taking a deer off the Delta National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). Agents made contact with Rigby and he admitted to taking the deer with a bow without having a bow license and without reporting the deer. Rigby also told agents that the illegally taken deer was in Alabama at a taxidermist.
quote:
Intentional concealment of illegal fish or wildlife and violating the interstate commerce regulations each carries a $900 to $950 and up to 120 days in jail. Failing to comply with deer reporting requirements brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Hunting without a bow license carries a up to a $50 fine and 15 days in jail.
Rigby may also face civil restitution totaling $1,624 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.

I was waiting for someone to post this

Would think that taking the deer at Delta would be a Federal charge.

So he could have bought what a $20 license and called it in, then never got into trouble?

Atleast they lied and said it was on the NWR so they wouldn’t catch a poaching charge too... Also lucky they didn’t write him up for the button buck he killed during the bow season without a license. Damn shame a beautiful deer like that is gonna hang in a wildlife office somewhere. That’s what happens when you put your entire life story on social media. But What do I know, I’m just giving “good” sportsman a bad name.

Its more than just this, this guy had to be close to mentally retarded. Poaching is one thing. But you shoot a nice buck while poaching DURING THE SEASON, you simply buy a license then call the deer in 6 hours later.
I've bought a license on the way to hunt or fish probably 20 times before I bought my lifetime license. Hell I've bought a fishing license on the water because it had expired.

no bow license
I guess there separate licenses in LA for bow hunting and hunting with a gun?

quote:yup. You get a big game license then you have to purchase the extra archery one. Similar to every other state I've hunted. Hell in many states (particularly west) you purchase a license for every deer you kill. And it is specific to the gear you will be using.

Hell, I bought one online, on the boat, looking at the game warden once. Saw him check another boat and thought ehhh maybe I should check my dates real quick... Mine had expired a few days before

That’s the problem with this new generation they think they have to post every damn thing they do on social media and it often comes back to bite them in the arse...

This new generation? You old farts can be worse than any teenager about over sharing and getting into drama on facebook. People running their mouth is not a new phenomenon, what's new is it being spread farther and faster.

So if my math is correct...
$950 for Interstate Commerce violation
$350 for reporting requirements
$50 for Bow license fine
$1524 for civil restitution
Around $3,000.
Some of those baws that go pay $10k to shoot a pen raised deer need to take note.

They get to keep those 10k deer though, this dudes deer will be hanging in a wildlife office somewhere. Although I completely agree a 10k deer is obsurd!!!

I’m sure he meant trespassing. The land bordering the delta is owned by one landowner.

I don't think LDWF has the jurisdiction to take the deer out of Alabama. Maybe they asked Alabama Wildlife & Fisheries to get it and send it back to LA?
