Watching/reading stories about divorce courts raking men over the coals has made me hesitant to ever get married to begin with.

I pretty much said something similar and for some reason both of us received two downvotes..
You do realize that's almost exactly what the quoted part of the article says, right?

It is because they are co-habitating and fricking before marriage, and waiting until they're older and more mature to get married.
They're giving the vehicles a thorough test drive before buying.
Crazy how logic prevails in this.

At least someone else understands how rates work.
I misread your original post. That’s my bad and for that i apologize.
I do understand rates and understand that Millennials are divorcing at a much lower rate than previos generations, especially Boomers.
I will also give some kudos to my own generation, Gen. X, because being that the study covers grouse 45 and younger, it also includes us as well. Looks like both our generations saw what the Boomers were doing and learned our lessons about doing things differently.

Not sure why you're being so snarky. I'm commenting to the guy who is acting like they aren't related at all trying to go for a "boom" moment.

quote:Dude it was a boom moment The guy clearly thought this was about total numbers and not rates. Of course the rates are lower because people are choosing when to marry with more tact now

It's the lower class millennials that are not getting married anymore.
This is why the rates are plummeting. Less poor decision makers are getting married.
But they are reproducing at 3x the rate.

quote:this re4ally isnt true. while you arent pushed to be married in your 20s or 30s or 40s, but if you meet a 40-50+ dude never married...... you know there is something wrong with that dude. Like kiddy porn wrong.
the non married stigma is basically non existent in this generation

I think you're either an elaborate troll or actually mentally challenged. I've seen you argue against math, science, and logic in several threads.
It is truly astounding.

People are just getting married later or not marrying at all. Millennials are still in the "getting married" age and will be for little while. Numbers will likely look a lot different in 10 years.

It may have something to do with it.
If 1000 boomers get married because they feel like they have to the rates will tend to be higher than the 100 millenials who get married because they really want to while the other 900 stay single due to the removal of the single life stigma.
This means the number of marriage is down along with the divorce rate.
Yes the overall number of divorces is likely down because less people are getting married but a smaller percentage is getting divorced because they are wanting to get married. Like it's been said before, newer generations don't feel they MUST be married before a certain time.
As a single 30 year old, I did think I would be married before this, especially after having a live in GF for a number of years. We didn't get married because we still had things we both wanted to accomplish before then.
Come to find out, she is batshit insane. Had I been like older generations, we likely would have gotten married then divorced instead of both going our seperate ways without the messiness of a divorce.

My wife was 3 years out of college and working and I had been working for 9 years when we got married. I’ll be 30 in a couple weeks and we aren’t having kids yet. Plenty of time to enjoy our lives now.
I wouldn’t wait too many more years if I were you. Remember, it’s going to take almost 20 years minimum to get them raised up and out on their own.

Which is great, but a rate I’d rather see lowered is bastard kids being born.

Yeah, I was talking about the people who jumped in right away saying that the rates are lower because they aren't getting married as much.
Yeah, but why? That's the important part.
