Mental toughness and playing to a standard...

It seems like this flat performance by LSU could be a sign of times to come. The best teams in the country play to a “standard” of excellence in every game no matter the competition. Every opponent, every play. It requires mental toughness and focus. I didn’t see that last night. Glad we won and are 2-0.
Time for Coach O and E to do their best coaching jobs this week in prep for Auburn. Anyone else see this with our Tigers so far?

Excellence is nothing LSU has really shown since 2003 NC year. Even then we lost a game. Maybe 2011 year until 1/9/12 happened.

Exactly right. All of these people that say O and E are hiding the big magic playbook that they’re waiting to show off to Auburn or some other big name opponent are full of crap. If this team were mentally and physically tough, they wouldn’t have been dominated at the line of scrimmage last night. And that’s something you don’t have to hide.

So "Max protection" means we can only expect 9ft passing?

I agree. The mental part of the game is where Saban, Kirby, Dabo, etc excell. Wonder if they have psychologists on staff. It’s seems their teams play the most consistent game in and game out... play in and play out. does LSU have any therapists on staff? Saban had psychologists speak to the team periodically when he was coaching LSU. Made the team practice jujitsu also I think. Maybe Bellechick told Saban that this is where you get an edge on competition...

IDK but I’m not very confident that Cregg, E and O are going to be able to fix the Oline in one week. Auburn’s front 7 is great.

Nick didn’t develop that part of his expertise until he left LSU. As good as he was here, his teams were not consistent. Read Bear Bryant’s book. He said the most difficult part about coaching college football was getting 18-22 to play at a high level every week. He said the best you can hope for is to get them ready four games a year. The rest of the season you hope your talent is better than the other team’s talent.
