Stephen King Books

I know Stephen King isnt the most heralded author on here sometimes, and I will definitely agree sometimes that his books are hit or miss. I just havent come across any other authors that create such atmosphere with their stories though. I feel like I can see and feel the setting the story is taking place in much more easily with his works. Are there any other author's the board could recommend who are equally talented?

Take a look at Adam L. G. Nev and Douglas Clegg. Atmospherics Master is H. P. Lovecraft.

peter straub is far more hit or miss than King. Ghost Story and Mystery are fantastic though.
I really like Stephen King. I generally enjoy his novels. I do think he drags them out a bit too long but I always finish them.
Joe Hill (his son) does good stuff, although the firemen was terrible.

Cormac McCarthy does that for me, and does so much better than King.
I like King, but I've always regarded him as a storyteller rather than an author. Maybe that's semantics though.

SK is a brilliant story teller but its obvious he struggles with ending his tales. Thats why book drag out an extra 300 pages, endings often have a wtf-ness about them and children have orgies.

I thought it was just me. But now I know there are others out there.
Horns was a good book by him.

Dan Simmons is solid. Summer of Night, a recent recommendation from this board, is fantastic.
I've already read Hyperion, The Terror
Robert McCammon for Horror is also super solid, particularly Swan Song. Very King-esque
Brandon Sanderson is the King of Fantasy

McCarthy is clearly a phenomenally talented writer but goddamn he bores the hell out of me

Haha yeah I hear you on that one. I actually just finished It for the first time and was like WTF at the end. Felt like a pedo just reading it!

One of my favorites. Carrion Comfort is also very good.
