Alabama-based football fans and trump fanboys are weird as hell when it comes to this issue

It's like lower NFL ratings are some personal victory for y'all

Very strange.

I refuse to watch any Falcon's regular season game on principle. I've been boycotting the NFL since 2007 due to shitty regional games, frick the Falcons.

NFL TEAMS SPLIT RECORD $7.8 BILLION IN 2016, UP 10% and $8.1 billion in revenue in 2017 meant that each team received roughly $255 million from the league. According to Bloomberg.

I have tried to express this to you before

The current money they are making are due to the ratings and success of the prior years...... The contracts were signed in 2014, for the period of 2014-2022

The potential loss in revenue will come when the NFLs tv and main sponsorship contracts come up for renewal

You think the next TV contracts will be for less money?

I dont know, but I wouldnt be surprised at all if inflation pending the contracts are for less value

But I am just saying his post makes no sense

THe nfl is not going to feel any potential hit for the loss in ratings until their tv contracts come up

Something I noticed though is that many of the penalties were legit infractions. Professional players need to learn how to play by the rules.

The ticky tack shite in the passing game is annoying though.

That's the thing, the refs weren't making shite up. The players were committing the penalties. It puts the refs in a tough spot. Do they just ignore the penalties they see?

Well, he's an idiot. What'd you expect?

For all the hullabaloo over the declining viewership and boycotts, I think the contracts will go up.

ETA: I just wish they had something like MLB.tv.

Would be weird to pay more money when you are making less money that before

It's still the major property of the networks.

It will be interesting, indeed.

Indeed.

Hmmm, pedantic.

We just live in a more fragmented entertainment landscape. Everything will be down due to many options.

Don’t understand the hate for Thursday games. It’s another game I’d otherwise be unable to watch due to market restrictions. More viewing windows the better. However the NFL should expand the season one week and giver every Thursday team a bye the week before.

I'm guessing you don't play fantasy football, which is fine. If you do, Thursday games REALLY mess up lineups as well as waivers. Not saying that's why the ratings were low last night, just saying that's a big reason why a lot of people aren't fans of Thursday NFL games.

Also there is the hypocrisy of the NFL saying they're all about player safety, while forcing 2 teams to play on 3 days rest.

The hate for Thursday night games stems from the quality of the games. They've been putrid. When the union has limited off-season practice time and then a short week of prep for the game; you get these shitshows*.

*Fully aware this doesn't apply to opening week, just in general.

None of that changes the fact that people don't like NFL football on Thursday. The one exception is Thanksgiving. Other than that it's hard wired into everyone that Sunday is NFL day w/the single Monday Night game. Half the people at my office didn't even realize the season started last night and assumed the opening would be this Sunday.

Buddy save that tall tale for your poolside buddies. Anybody that actually follow sports know TV ratings have been dropping across the board the last five years or just like attendance have for both college and professional football. But you keep rubbing your ego thinking it has anything even remotely to do with the cry babies who think they are entitled to dictate other people lives.
Did he even say anything in the vein of what you stated?

All he said is that revenue was set years ago and will change when the new contracts are discussed.

He made no comment as to the cause.

The NFL has alienated a lot of modern viewers by maintaining an antiquated restrictive Sunday afternoon broadcast model in an era of rapidly expanding media options.

A LOT of people have been fed the same teams every Sunday afternoon for years, regardless or the quality or those teams/games, and many of them have lost interest. This is where college football vastly outpaces the NFL. Virtually every big college game is broadcast nationally.

Fantasy football was primarily responsible for the NFL's rapid growth over the last two decades. I don't have a handle on its popularity since I stopped playing ~10 years ago.
