How freaked out were you the first time you watched your kid head out the driveway for the first time alone?
Just happened to me.

Once a month, I would shite due to the cost of insurance.

It hasn’t happened for me yet. But it’s coming quickly

My parents solved this by not letting me get a license (did get a permit) or practice driving beyond the fundamentals of operation.
Assholes.

How much did your insurance go up roughly with the additional of the teen? That's coming up for me soon.

Sort of a good bit. The first time my oldest left with the younger two for school, I stood at the door and watched dressed and ready to go after them if needed. I told him my world was in that truck.
It gets better with the next kid.

Just had my step daughter start driving a couple weeks ago. She has a 2006 Acura RL that was donated to us by some family. The insurance is $300/month. That’s with a bunch of discounts too.

I understand what this is like. I don’t know the feeling from personal experience but I believe I understand the range of emotions here.
I say that because I recently adopted two bird children and seeing them fly off for the first time left me feeling proud, concerned, and lonely all at once.

I still freak out at the thought.

I was perfectly ok with it. He drives way better than I do. He probably freaks out when I backout the driveway.

When he left he said he was gonna pick up a buddy and go hang out at another buddy’s house.
When I called him an hour later he was at a restaurant with a girl named Katie.

I just did this in mid June. It really wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. We had been practicing for quite a bit while she had her permit (10 months), so I was confident in her skills. Still needs some practice in parking lots, but on the road, she is good. First time with just her and her brother was a little freaky though.
As for the insurance, mine went from $130 a month for my wife and I (4 cars) to $270, and this includes a couple of discounts. I knew it was going to jump so I was not too shocked.

When they master mud riding the four wheeler and hauling the gooseneck with you in it, you’ll be ok with them taking the 1500 or minivan alone.

16 year old daughter (no pics)
1998 Honda for a car.
Good student discount.
Everything is bundled cars, house, boat.
1,300 every six months.

When I went off to LSU, my whole family made a weekend of it to help me move in, and my mother burst into tears when it was time to go. When my younger brother left for college, it was "eh, see you later. Don't forget to write."

How much did insurance jump?
I added my wife to my policy and it went up $280 a month.
She had one accident in six years.
I hate insurance.

My mom told me today that the first time I drove off alone I was headed to the ballpark and she sat on the couch chewing her nails convinced i was gonna run over a kid.
I guess this is a common experience.

My son got his permit when he was 15. We bought him a car and I would have him drive to school with me in the passenger seat. I would make him take varied routes to school, both interstate and surface roads. I would drive his car to work, then pick him up from school and he would drive me home.
Three things:
He scared the shite out of me several times in the first few weeks.
When he got his drivers license he was ready and we didn't worry too much.
Baton Rouge is probably one of the worst towns to learn to drive.
