So let me get this straight? LSU fires it's coach who averaged ~9 wins a season because, in large part, he was failing to win SEC West/SEC Championships and beat the biggest challenger in the conf., Alabama, (for whatever reason -- refusal to change offense, coaches, "weaker" recruiting, etc) ONLY to then hire the DL coach from the staff that was apparently underachieving, who then, in turn, names the TE coach from the underachieving staff as OC, and now the acceptable "bar" is that it's ok to lose (AT HOME) to the top teams in the league?

What the frick did LSU fire Les Miles for if the current "bar" is now basically the exact same level of success Miles was achieving when he was fired?

I'm not saying LSU should fire Ogeron after the 2018 season if he doesn't win the West or SEC, but I can't understand why he has a lower "bar" for success than the guy he was hired to replace and, ostensibly, improve upon?

That's true but expecting a coach to contend for a title in year 2 is unrealistic at any school.

A&M which has unlimited resources, a popular national brand, consistently solid recruiting classes and is in a talent rich state. They just hired Jimbo the QB whisperer who brought FSU back to national prominence. A&M has been a bowl team every year in the SEC.

What are the expectations for A&M this year?

How many conference or national titles has TAM won or played for this century?

Their defense is a complete rebuild and their head coach is bringing in a new offensive system, one that he has been very successful with over the past seven seasons.

He also hasn’t coached a game in College Station. Our coach will be kicking off his 20th game as our HC against Miami.

The two situations aren’t remotely similar.

Imo depends on the mindset of the team at that point. If they are 3-0 or 2-1 they may very well take care of business. If the team is 1-2 have already started changing starters, the players and coaches are pointing fingers at each other and the fan base has already melted. Then yes that La Tech team that could win their division and conference championship could be a very tough game.

Kirby Smart and Lincoln Riley say hello. Both are examples just from last year.

I expect A&M to start off 2-2, look really bad against Clemson and maybe a little better against Alabama with their 4th game. I expect them to start playing better as the year progresses but still hit at least 1 more stumbling block along the way. By the last week of the season, I expect them to be 8-3 or at worst 7-4 but be playing some really really good football. They will play us really hard and may be good enough to get the W. If we we played them in the first half of the year, we smoke them, but since its the last game, they are going to be a much improved team.

We supposedly hired Ed Orgeron instead of a real candidate for the sake of continuity, so the rebuild excuses are especially worthless.

Ed is just a placeholder whose job is tp stock the cuppard for when Aranda is promoted to HC and give DA a few more years to ready himself for the job.

If you can't see this is at least the tentative plan just based on their respective salaries, I don't even know what to say.

Eta: CheeriOs downvote away, but look at each man's contract and compare them to SEC averages for their respective positions. After you've done that I'd like to hear a coherent argument that my speculation doesn't make sense.

I guess I should have expected all the retarded replies, but extended sigh...Go back and read the OP and if you still don’t understand, come back and we’ll discuss.

IIRC Sumlin had all the offensive talent in the world including four 5* quarterbacks since 2014. Jimbo may improve the offensive production, especially in the running game, but it's going to take him a couple years to get the horses to hang on D.

Remember, Danny Etling looked like Tom Brady against them last year. They haven't stopped our running game since Manziel was their quarterback (even then they didn't really stop it so much as slow/contain it).

I think we extend the winning streak at least two more years before (if Jimbo proves worthy of his contract) he has them competing with LSU.

No, fair would be holding O to the exact same standard that Miles was held to. As someone mentioned earlier, O was hired because he wouldn’t have to rebuild. So no excuses.

That'd be nice if this was the plan but I don't give Alleva that much credit for being forward thinking.

I think he was embarrassed by Herman wanting to talk to Texas and he hired O to save face. If O fails, Alleva is finished.

Pretty spot on. Les was fired for not opening up offense, Talent Wasn't a problem and no REBUILD was needed. Sooooo
