Prognosticators are all over the board, some don't even have us in the rankings. For fun, let's Look at Preseason 2003...Coming off of an 8-5 season with a Cotton Bowl loss to Texas.

Yep, preseason prognostications mean about as much as me having small hands

Yeah but Ed O is our coach.

ignore all predictions/chatter from the talking heads. They know less than we do.
Just wait to play the games, then we'll all know.

I think 2010 is a better comparison. Went into the season ranked something like 23rd with no expectations. Started off to a 7-0 start and worked our way into the top 10. Lost a close one to cam newton then came back and beat bama. Should have been sugar bowl bound if not for the Arkansas loss last game of the season

Man, that game with Georgia in 2003 is one I will never forget. They had to be top 10 by the time we played them, they were loaded. David Greene, David Pollack, and the whole team was loaded. I didn't realize Auburn started out the season ranked so high. I can't remember, how did our game go with Auburn that year?
Also, in regards to OP, that team was absolutely loaded with seniors, including a senior quarterback and had Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp, compared to the coaches we have now. **Only positive is I would rather Dave Aranda over Muschamp.

I hope not. I thought our physiology was supposed to subconsciously repress negative memories but for some reason, I remember that one all too well. Wheels completely fell off of the bus after the GA and FL losses.
With that said, to me, this feels nothing like 1998

Isn't it always a good thing if we are ranked lower preseason?
Posted on 7/17/18 at 8:48 am to lsutigermall
Or, it could be similar to the 2014 season.
Ranked 13th in the preseason polls coming off a 9-3 season the year before and a 3rd place finish in the SEC West. The team had to replace its starting QB, top two WR's, and starting RB (who was a second round draft pick). The good news was that the 2014 team had the #2 ranked recruiting class coming in to help. 2018 has the number #15 ranked recruiting class coming in. Also, the 2003 team returned virtually everyone of note from the 2002 team (except at RB). Only 4 players were drafted from the 2002 team.
Point being, you could find a good season to compare things to or a bad season to compare things to. The reality, all seasons are independent of one another and we just don't know what 2018 will look like.

I doubt we will be ranked that high in the preseason poll. we'll probably be somewhere between 17-21

We don’t belong 17-21. More like 24-28 The pollsters, like us, have zero clue about our entire offense.

That's so true. They're paid to know a little about a lot. How many times do you hear them spout nonsense or inaccuracies about our program? Pay them no mind.

Head coach insulating himself with his buddies on staff, lack of returning production, many unknowns...seems pretty accurate to 1998 to me...hope I'm wrong
