re: I'm starting the Coach E bandwagon. Who's on board?

Cameron (Miles) offense was struggling big time. Ensminger's tweaks, (which is all Cameron had to do) was a breath of fresh air. He did a good job.
Right. Cameron probably would not have used his future NFL running backs against the worst ranked run defenses that we faced. Come on, man.

Wait...you think he instilled his own offense in the off week after Les was shite canned?
Do you think Cam Cameron invented football?
What in the actual frick is going on right now?
I think Steve added his own wrinkles to stuff we were doing. Most important, the sequencing changed for the better & the offense ran smoother.
If Cam Cameron, Matt Canada, and Steve E all run the same play, who's play is it?

There was no off week
LSU played mizzou 6 days later and won 45-7
...using the offense Ensminger installed in 5 days , according to our boy Lester Earl.

a terrible looking hire. Why would you say this????
Because it was a terrible looking hire.

quote:yea Cameron wouldn’t have used the running game against those teams that couldn’t stop it. LSU looked better passing with ensminger but Cameron wouldn’t have needed to pass much to beat those teams badly. They couldn’t stop anyone’s run game. The bama game Cameron couldn’t have done worse. The offense couldn’t score against a Florida d missing half it’s starters. It wasn’t a great a job as your making it sound
No, I disagree. Cameron (Miles) offense was struggling big time. Ensminger's tweaks, (which is all Cameron had to do) was a breath of fresh air. He did a good job.

He did a good job getting a very talented team good enough to beat completely outclassed teams.
For sure.
And honestly I agree It was a little tweak we needed. That offense Cam and Les was running was probably the tightest offense I have ever seen and I’ve watched 11 years of Les Miles Offense.
But if anything the fact that he couldn’t get it going back the big boys kinda negates all that.
If we want to be good and not just good enough we have to beat those guys and that Alabama games draws serious questions about E’s ability to gameplan and Os I ability to spot a bad gameplan.
For sure.

was on board from the begining, at least give the man the length of his cntract. I am sure the bottom 105 teams in Div 1 would like to have him

What did you like about the gameplan vs Alabama in 2016?
I think the game flow dictated an extremely cautious game plan. Going against a defense with 6 first round picks with Danny Etling at QB sure isn't ideal. 0-0 into the 4thQ
What would you have changed, realistically?
Fournette was getting stoned. Etling had no time. What should we have done differently?

I never said it was a terrible looking hire. Why would you say this????
I inferred it from your first line where you stated, "I was skeptical when he was hired because, like O, it felt like there was no search." I agree with that assessment, but if I misrepresented your point of view I apologize. That was not my intent.
quote:
Who are we to judge on play calling and X's and O's.
First, it's what all fans do. While these guys are experts, they're experts in football. We'd be terrible at it, but most seasoned fans who have played a time or two could call plays badly if they were given a head set. Let's stop pretending they are neurosurgeons.
That being said, we can not judge him for the job he was actually hired to do until the actually does it. the only thing that can be judged right now are if you think he was a qualified hire and whatever he says he's going to do when he actually coaches a game. everything else is just speculation...good or bad.
quote:
Really?? None?? Are you sure about that?
Yes. He has not installed his own offense as a full time OC in 20 years and even back then he was never considered some fantastic OC. Until he does it and we see the results, we have no idea what he;s going to produce.
quote:
So when he took over in 2016, he was a part-time OC - wtf are you talking about??? He called every play in 8 games that year.
Utilizing someone else's playbook and what amounts to someone else's offensive players. him calling plays at the interim OC is as much of an indicator as to how good a job he'd be installing his own system and calling plays on a yearly basis as Orgeron's interim gigs were in deciding if he'd be a good full time head coach.

How did you prepare to call plays that first week after not doing it for 10 years?
It’s difficult, I’ll be honest with you. But the difficult part is, it’s not your system. Back when I was coordinator, yes, it could just roll off your tongue, what you wanted to call. Having put the game plan together, you know what you want. I really had to look at the game plans, when we first started, to see how we called this play, by the formations and adjustments and everything else. Now, after these last two and a half months, I feel very comfortable with it. I had to be like the quarterbacks. On Thursday and Friday nights, I had to go home and I had to study, just like they did, on how I was going to call this play and what plays I wanted in these situations. I was studying again. I never liked college anyhow.

Define wrinkles.
As for the rest, no one is arguing that point. Who was upset with the tweaks made that got the offense moving? He did what most fans had hoped would happen...things opened up a bit and our athletes started to make big plays.
But...isn't that more of an indictment on Les holding the offense back then it is some indication that Ensminger is some fantastic OC, considering it was done with the Cam/Miles playbook?

I guess he proved that when he had the chance against Jacksonville St. But, what does that have to do with Cameron's failures.

You didn’t answer my question.
But I’ll answer yours, come Up with something they haven’t seen
This year we busted out the wildcat out of nowhere and actually scored.
We had 2 weeks I dont Think it would have been impossible to add a package win Guice and LF7 on the field.
We went into that game hopping the little tweaks would be enough.
Also before you critique My ideas remember: you’re advocating for a guy who didn’t come
Up any better ideas.

Kent State scored more points on that defense in 2016 than LSU.
