Seriously, is one 12 ounce of soda a day gonna cause long term issues?
ETA: sorry, I should clarify, it's a 12 ounce diet soda a day.

Probably not. The problem I find is that they are loaded with sugar which causes you to want more sugar. They're also, what, like 120 calories a can? Over 7 days your talking about a 1000 calories reduction a week, that's pretty substantial for just cutting out 12 Oz of liquid.

nope but I also am not a kid and don't want nor need an extra 1000 calories of sugar weekly in my diet.

My issue is having one at work, then would have 1-2 at dinner and I’m trying to hold off diabetes at it runs rampant in my family.
I’m also overweight so it’s a baby step for me to cut out.

Random bump but I just hit 4 months without any Dr Pepper/ soda or sweet tea.
Really excited I found some willpower and stuck it out... now on to 6 months....
My doctor was thrilled at my news last week.
It can be done !!

Coke is my biggest challenge to getting where I want to be. I intermittent fast and only drink black coffee all day until around 5 and I bet cokes are about 10-15% of my caloric intake. That's terrible. I used to get big fountain cokes but now Im drinking one 12 oz glass bottle a day. The glass cokes taste better and keep the kick a lot longer. Its the kick it gives my mouth as much as it is the taste. I guess my big question is is my 12 oz coke that's 140 calories and 39g of carbs any worse than say one little high sugar snack/day? I know I shouldn't drink them but my diet otherwise is pretty on point so I don't really know how much it matters.

AS the Updated thread title indicates... I made it through the back half of 2018 without giving in and am gonna continue the streak...
I'm not losing pounds and that's ok... I am noticeably losing neck fat as there is no jiggle anymore
But I feel so much better overall.
in case anyone here is struggling with it, it starts with day 1 and some self discipline.
If I can do it... anyone can

All you need is water, coffee, beer, bourbon, and the occasional tequila shot.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I used to be super addicted to Diet Coke. I am talking about drinking anywhere from 2-6 per day. After reading the Wild Diet in 2016, I cut them out cold turkey. It was tough but I have also stuck with it until now. Great job and keep going! It gets really easy after a while, you just stop craving it completely after this long.

I used to drink 3+ Dr Peppers a day. One day, I just decided that the shot had to stop. That was about a year and a half ago. I haven’t had a Dr Pepper or traditional soda/diet soda since. On the rare occasion (maybe once a week?), I’ll drink a Mexican coke. Those are delicious. I’ve tried a couple regular ones since I quit and they are god awful. Haven’t missed them one bit.
To get that kick in my throat, I drink seltzer water. Polar or Topo Chico. Once I got used to that, I’d prefer an ice cold topo chico over anything.

Coffee and tea for me only besides water. Have had about 5 carbonated beverages in the last 5 years. Lost about 40 lbs over that time with not much of a diet change.
If you need a sweet taste, Gold Peak Diet Tea is good. Also an Arnold Palmer with unsweetened tea will be a good substitute if you need some sugar.

I quit smoking 15 years ago. In conjunction, I quit drinking coffee/coke/tea. I slowly worked decaf coffee and tea back into my diet. I still haven’t had a carbonated soft drink in 15 years. Quitting the caffeine has been more impactful to me than the sugar.
