Yeah, Aggie's dug in on this one, for some odd reason. Such a silly thing to dig your heels in over. I'll give him credit, he sure is persistent in his wrongness.

quote:If your father tells me that you told him "X," with all other things being equal, I have no reason to disbelieve that you told him "X." But I also have no reason to believe that "X" is true, simply because your father told me that you said it.
So if your father says that you told him something, he's not to be believed.
Now, to make your analogy a bit more accurate.
If your father told me that you told him that your husband told you that his parent told him "X," I would still have no reason to disbelieve that you told him "X." But I would also have no reason to believe that "X" actually happened" or that the recitation from the husband to you or from the in-laws to husband were an accurate recitation.
Now, add in the politics and family dynamics. If "X" were true, it would help your father politically, despite the fact that he has no knowledge whether "X" is (in fact) true.
Even if "X" were false, are the in-laws likely to step forward and say that your father is stretching the truth (and thereby damage familial relations), if the truth or falsity of "X" has not real bearing on their lives?

So are you actually denying that the Sanders family were followed to the next restaurant and suffered more harassment? If so you are retarded. You're arguing for the sake of argument. Which Mark's you as dumb as shite.

Yeah, this is a pretty detailed account. No, it isn't first hand.
But you have to be pretty fricking clueless to not think Sarah and/or the brother in law didn't have a conversation with Mike right after this happened.
In any case, it is really difficult to have a conversation with someone who does not even understand "what issue" is being discussed.
NO ONE is saying that Sarah did not talk to her father. NO ONE is saying that Mike Huckabee concocted this entire story from whole cloth.
The only contention is that his rendition of the story (to Fox, who doubtless failed to ask questions about where/how he obtained the information) is subject to question for several reasons, including (but not limited to) potential political bias and the fact that it is several generations removed from anyone with firsthand knowledge of the events.

Stop talking around the issue. If you think Huckabee is lying or is misinformed...say it. Try to get through one friecking post without lecturing. Good lord, you must be miserable to litigate with. Prattling on incessantly.

I am not saying definitively that it "did happen" or that it "did not happen." I am simply saying that those on this forum who insist that it "did happen" are basing this assertion more upon political bias, than upon an objective examination of the facts available to us. I am also saying that I find it somewhat implausible that events took place exactly as Mike Huckabee described them, for many reasons but primarily the following:
1. Despite weeks of a media swarm in this little town, NO ONE has come forward with a first-hand account consistent with Mike's claims.
2. As stories go through several generations of repetition, they invariably get mangled somewhat (sometimes inadvertently and sometimes intentionally).
====
I have mentioned the children's game of Telephone several times.
1. First person tells second person something about an "auburn-haired beauty."
2. Second person seldom uses the word "auburn," and repeats the story to a third person as "red-haired beauty."
3. Third person had a bad connection and understood "thinks he heard "red-haired pony" rather than "red-haired beauty."
4. "Red-haired pony" doesn't make sense to third person, so he tells the story to fourth person as "sorrel pony."
In three transmissions, we have gone from "auburn-haired beauty" to "sorrel pony."
====
Is it really difficult to imagine that (in the same number of generations) a single "sign" was understood to mean a larger "protest?" Is it really difficult to imagine that a later "encounter" was interpreted as "following us?"

Does the information being widely disseminated with NOBODY really contradicting it not count for anything in your book?

What's difficult is trying to figure out why you give such a crap about this. You are hell bent on proving that Mike Huckabee's account of what happened to his daughter may not be 100.00% factually correct. That he may have said confrontation when it was an encounter. That it wasn't a protest, but merely a sign being held up. Do you actually realize just how ridiculous you are making yourself appear?

NO, I do not think Huckabee is intentionally lying. Despite my dislike for his SoCon ideology, I think he is a pretty straight-shooter in most cases.
YES, I think the story got mangled between the husband's brother, then his parents, then the husband, then Sarah, then Mike. And I find it baffling that so many college-educated people are willing to ignore that likelihood ... simply due to political bias.
If this story involved Nancy Pelosi, one of her daughters, the daughter's (hypothetical) GOP husband and in-laws, and a Conservative restaurant owner, 95% of this forum would be discarding Pelosi's story without even CONDUCTING an onsite, factual investigation.
Why is that so damned hard to grasp?

According to USA Today, a mixed group of protesters and hopeful customers waited outside for the Red Hen to open at 5 p.m. The former carried signs with messages like “Red Hen 2018 = 1960 Woolworth Lunch Counter,” while the latter were turned away unless they had a reservation. (A sign in the restaurant’s window explained it was fully booked.)

Here's my question for you, and other liberals. And it's a simple one, should be easy to answer.
Why is it acceptable to discriminate against someone that you don't like because of their political ideology, but not because you don't like their skin color?
See, me? I think this woman had EVERY right to ask Sarah to leave her restaraunt ( I don't believe she had the right to chase her family down the street, however) but I also believe that a black man ought have the right to throw a white man out of his BBQ joint, or a baker ought have right to refuse to service a gay, or well you get the point. I don't in ANY case believe that a person should have the right to take it further and harass a person on the street at their home, at their place of work, or anywhere else, but as a business owner on principle alone I defend this woman asking Sanders to leave her place of business. I KNOW you wouldn't support a white person if they asked Maxine Waters, or any other black person, to leave their business though.

For starters, employees in nearby businesses have said that they observed no "sidewalk protest" on the evening in question.
Let's go back to my initial involvement in this discussion. Spanielboy asserted that Wilkerson followed Sarah Sanders from the Red Hen to the Southern Inn. I responded that this assertion was false, because the un-contradicted fact was that Sarah DID NOT proceed to the Country Inn, but instead immediately went back to her B&B (Good Place Farms).
The MAGA Mob then proceeded to mount an offensive of a half-dozen "OK, she went to bed, but what about" pursuit of the rest of the Sanders family, a sidewalk protest outside the Southern Inn, a nasty confrontation later in the evening between the Sanders clan and Wilkerson. Etcetera.
I pointed out that the ONLY support for ANY of those claims was a third-hand account from Mike Huckabee and asked for a link to ANY first-hand account of ANY of these incidents.
NO ONE has provided a link to a first-hand account.
Again, if this were Pelosi, NO ONE on this board would have accepted the story. The widespread acceptance is a simple matter of ignoring facts in favor of political bias. Such is life.

I have said REPEATEDLY that I disfavor public accommodation laws, would repeal them all and that any business owner should be able to choose who he will (or will not) do business with.
The only caveat on my position is that the business owner must post/publish this fact prior to denying service, because no one should be allowed to be seated for dinner (or whatever service) and then suffer the indignity of being escorted from the premises without prior warning.
Of course, we do not live in that world. In the real world, we DO have public accommodation laws, and those laws (in most jurisdictions) DO prohibit racial discrimination and DO NOT prohibit political discrimination.
quote:So, you would be wrong, in a world without public accommodation laws ... provided only that the business posted a "no service" warning and did not first allow her to be seated.
I KNOW you wouldn't support a white person if they asked Maxine Waters, or any other black person, to leave their business though.
In the world in which we actually live, that business owner would be breaking the law and should suffer the consequences.
