I know a lot of you have friends and family that went on free dinner dates with the Pharma reps.
Remember when it was the best job in sales in the late '90s and well into the '00s?

A former sales representative for a major drug manufacturer has admitted to charges she helped fuel the opioid addiction crisis by bribing doctors to prescribe a potent painkiller, authorities said

State authorities say the company gave kickbacks to doctors in the form of phony "speaker's fees" that really served as payments for "off-label" prescriptions that gave patients the painkillers for purposes not approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration

Unregulated capitalism.
You need an economics course, son. BigPharma is as crony as you can get.

One of the most highly regulated industries at that.

Big pharma is unregulated capitalism? Link?

Unregulated capitalism?
Just because they found a loophole doesn't mean the industry is "unregulated".
Do you think this wouldn't happen in socialism ?

my original version didn't even include the FDA reference b/c it wasn't even necessary
the fact that doctors prescribe the meds is an example of a clear regulation, and bribing the doctors to over-prescribe is a clear example of an actor taking advantage of government-imposed market regulations. if there were no regs, why would anyone bribe doctors to do this? there are no barriers promoting that path

Big pharma is about as regulated as possible. Look how hard it is for experimental drugs to break in.

I don't believe you gave any of this much thought before posting.

Yep, the regulations themselves give impetus to mfgrs to exploit their very narrow channels through alternative means to gain competitive edge.

As a country we know less about the free market than we do communism

You don't even understand simple terms like "regulated" Wish we had a board tally for all the failed "gotcha" attempts.

Have you reported them to the authorities for accepting bribes "to prescribe a potent painkiller"?

Wow, irony is beyond hysterical and so typical of liberal's lack of understanding of economics.

It happened in the past. I have not seen it happen since this shite hit the fan, at least at hospital level.
Drug reps do not even give pens.
