It is pretty much a market-wide situation. Here is a good synopsis of some of the issues going on...

Just a basic calculation using those numbers would say your Homeowners Insurance is roughly $7000-$8000 per year?

PSA: you should instruct your agent to price shop for any coverage any time the policy is up for renewal and report the results to you

Auto Insurance has jumped 35% in the last 3 years and climbing. Insurance companies, like the rest of Corporate America, are raping consumers right now. The Insurance Commissioner is NOT the friend of the consumer by any sense of the imagination.

State farm had a big shift in their claims dept. several years ago (made it a lot tougher).
They went from having one of the best consumer ratings to middle of the pack.

State farm employees are not happy. Are told to deal with it.
This is from a childhood friend who has worked for the company his entire working life (over 20 Years).
Agents have a lot of stroke but really have to fight for you.

as they should, big insurance has no loyalties to anyone and I'm a pretty good customer so I pretty much go with price, to a certain extent

Have you ever considered that the increase may be due to LA’s extremely high rate of uninsured drivers and vehicles becoming increasingly more expensive to repair?

Longevity with any company makes a difference, too. Shopping may lower your rate temporarily, but like you said, the company you get that lower rate with has to catch up some time.

If you live in Louisiana and you aren’t insured through an independent agency.

There is about 90% chance you are getting your butthole reamed not only in coverage but in premium

It does with our personal rates. We've been with our company for 24 years and nobody can touch our fire policy rate. Or our auto, for that matter. Unless I want shite for insurance, which we don't.

Now, I won't say that we don't take rate increases, but when you start with a premium that was "x" number of dollars 24 years ago, and take the same average percentage rate increase, you still have a lower premium than a rate hopper.

While I believe you, I don't understand why the insurance lobby, maybe the biggest, isn't pushing for increased penalties for driving under or uninsured. I would think it would be in their interest to decrease uninsured driving to control their cost and keep their customers happy, right?

Something else is going on in my opinion.
