You got kids? In the public schools in Texas, they say the Pledge to the Texas Flag every day, right after the Pledge of Allegiance.
They also sing Deep in the Heart of Texas during the 7th inning stretch at Astros games.
Crawfish are out of control. I learned in the 6 years I was in Katy... stop trying to get LA food. Just accept that the brisket and Mexican food is amazing and make that staples of your diet.
if you really need a crawfish fix... Good Ole Boys in Katy is expensive as frick but at least it tastes good and they put seasoning IN their boil water.
If you need something Cajun go to the Cajun Stop right near downtown for lunch. Bonus, the owner there Lisa is smoking hot.

In Austin, $8/lb would be great. Most places are $8.50-10.00 here and you're taking a gamble on what your going to get.

He's talking about boiled crawfish not live. Smoked brisket in Texas goes for $10-14/lb.

Nice to see someone talking some sense into the thread

Here's an original idea.
Boil them in your own backyard with your own beer and your own music like a real transplant. I just did them for the wife on Mother's Day in the middle of concrete HOA land for under $2 per pound. My neighbors probably had no idea what they were smelling and I'll probably get fined for it but ****'em.
ProTip: the grocery stores (HEB, Kroger) get them every weekend morning through Father's Day from farms probably located within an hour drive from the city. They're just as nice as any I've bought from anywhere in south Louisiana. Don't let the homers here try to tell you that you've moved to a different climate that can't grow a bug in the wet mud.

Crawfish place in Anahuac. They have other food that is good too. Serve beer in a can, smoke inside. Nothing more you can ask for.

HEB and Kroger get their crawfish from south Louisiana
There might be 10000 acres of crawfish ponds in Texas at the most
There 250000 acres of ponds in LA plus the basin
The Houston metro consumes just as much crawfish as the state of LA annually

shite I know 1 rice farmer that has 3k acres he raises crawfish on then swaps to rice .. he's in Winnie.
I paid 25 for all you can eat last Night. Dollar a pound last weekend for a sack. But I'm on the Sabine river.

Cool
Most ponds are rotated with rice
There are still not many acres in Texas compared to LA

No doubt la has more crawfish than Texas. But it's not like Houston is so far away you can't find good crawfish.

Houston has some great restaurants.
Why would you want to eat crawfish there???
For that matter, why would you want to eat ANY Louisiana food there???

Plus, Texans don’t know how to soak after boiling, and they pour the seasoning on top after boiling.
I’m not sure that’s a Houston thing and it seems most places have now abandoned that method in Louisiana. People were doing that in Louisiana over 20 years, at least. I think it was mostly restaurants and caterers that did it.
‘Steam’ rather than boil all the crawfish mild or medium seasoning, dust with seasoning to achieve other seasoning levels, usually in a cooler to trap the heat. As they cool they are supposed to suck in the seasoning. It baffled me when the did it but I understand why they would. I hate it, much prefer traditional boiled crawfish that I grew up with.

I wouldn't worry about a few pennies for crawfish prices when you are saving a boatload compared to living in Louisiana
