I found a brand new looking french press made of copper for $5, and looked it up and was $80+ retail. Also one time I found a solid copper cooking pan but it didn't have a price on it, so I didn't worry about it. Went home and looked it up and some were selling for $250+, up to $1000 for certain pans. I went back the next day and the MF'er was gone! I work with copper and love to cook so I should have gotten it when I had the chance.

Paid $5.00 for an old foot locker about ten years ago and under the old newspapers I found a World War I doughboy shave kit. Looks exactly like the picture. Wife put in on top of an antique wash stand.

I did buy off Goodwill's auction site a big box of hotel keys. I paid $30 for the entire box and my wife thought I was stupid.
It was full of old hotel keys from the 50's, 60's, & 70's Route 66 and others out west. There were three from the LV MGM that burnt down. They sold for about $120 a piece. I sold the entire contents for about $800.

It's not like it use to be, it's hard to find the steals now, but you can get lucky every once in a while

Someone else’s feet sweat in those shoes and then your wife now wears them. That’s disgusting. Casual shoes are what... $100?

Owning an antique store is my dream job when I win the lottery. I can spend an entire day roaming through miscellanea in small town antique shops

I don't hunt like I use to. Smart phones took the fun out of it. I liked it when I bought shite and didn't know the value until I got home. I've gone back to my basics and don't look shite up when I'm there.
My more recent finds, two hand carved chess sets, paid $700, sold for $1800, three pool cues, paid $100, sold yesterday for $375.

Strange thing also from last week's garage sale hunts, my 14 yo daughter found a signed copy of Billy Cannon's autobiography. It was $10 and I told her it's not that valuable, maybe $20-$30

That’s so interesting. My #1 fear is antique stores. (That and hollow chocolate bunnies.) But antique stores... I get short of breath and everything. I do love hearing about the good finds though.
Anyone who knows me in real life is now going to know who I am from saying that.

You give yourself more credit than deserved, but that's not uncommon for silly women.

My fear of old stuff is well known in my real life.
Antique - how were you able to get in touch with all of these families? Rather, what let you know that you needed to reach out?

Maybe. It gives you the option to look something up when you aren’t sure if it is real or what it even is.
Happy hunting
