How many SEC teams will make a regional? (SEC standings & records included below)

My best guess is 8 SEC teams will make a regional which would be the same number of SEC teams as last year. That's assuming no outlier, like Missouri, wins the tournament and becomes the automatic qualifier. If that happens, then I say 9 teams will make a NCAA regional.
The ESPNU talking heads during Thursday's LSU/Auburn game said they think as many as 10 SEC teams make the tournament. I think that's too high.
Final Standings:
West
1. Ole Miss
SEC record: 18-12
Overall record: 42-14
2. Arkansas
SEC record: 18-12
Overall record: 37-17
3. Auburn

If you think only 8 are making the tournament, then LSU would be odd man out with that thought. LSU is without a doubt 9th in the pecking order.
With State sweeping Florida, they are a lock. If LSU beats State on Tuesday, I think they are in. Lose and you’re sweating on Memorial Day
Max of 9 teams make it outside someone catching fire who is below the pecking order. LSU will be sweating bullets if they lose on Tuesday.

Alabama, Mizzou, and Tennessee definitely are OUT.
UK and A&M should NOT make the NCAA's because they both having losing SEC records.
UF, Arkansas, Ole Miss, UGA, Carolina, and Vandy have winning SEC records, so I'll say they all make it.
Auburn will make it because they have a very high RPI and a break-even SEC record.
That's 7 teams IN for sure.
State and LSU are on the bubble. Interestingly enough we play each other on Tuesday in Hoover.
I think LSU must beat State on Tuesday to earn an NCAA berth.

With State sweeping Florida, they are a lock.
But you might be right. The baseball committee seems to change their semi-secret criteria every year.

My predictions:
Locks:
Florida (National Seed)
Arkansas (National Seed Bubble)
Ole Miss (National Seed Bubble)
Georgia (Host Bubble)
Likely:
South Carolina (2 Seed)
Vanderbilt (2 Seed)
Auburn (3 Seed)
Hoover Determines:
LSU (3 Seed)
State (3 Seed)
Big game Tuesday. Loser likely gets knocked out, winner likely gets in.

I’m going by what I see.
State is the hottest team in the SEC right now. They have the best series win out of anyone on the bubble.
Also, I don’t trust the committee after what happened in 2011. You’re putting a lot of stock in the committee.

Georgia is a national seed bubble. They said it a lot throughout the series if they won it. They will be hosting for sure. Auburn will be a two seed and is on the bubble to host. I think State might have played itself into a two seed, and if LSU doesn’t get a win on Tuesday they will be on the bubble to get in. If they win they will be a three seed for sure.

quote:I understand that they swept Florida but they lost 2 out of 3 games to Kentucky just last weekend.
State is the hottest team in the SEC right now.
Also, O'Sullivan rested his best pitcher, Singer, this weekend. Frankly I don't know if the selection committee delves that deeply into the details of a series.

LSU isn’t

Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn, Vanderbilt are in
Alabama, Missouri, and Tennessee are out.
That leaves Mississippi St, LSU, Texas A&M, Kentucky.
By committee decision years ago and of recent a 13-17 conference record should automatically disqualify an SEC team so that would elimate both Texas A&M and Kentucky.
You then have Mississippi St and LSU, both can argue being in and it wouldn’t surprise me to see both as 3 seeds assuming most top teams win their conference tournaments. Both teams will be rooting for favorites in the conferences next week.

Would have been nice if Tennessee would have beat Missouri today. That would have eliminated them from being in contention for the tournament.

Luckily they are 12-18 in conference.
I would be more worried about Kentucky and A&M if they were 14-16 but short of each winning 2 games in the tournament they would still be well under .500 in conference.

So, that means you're guessing 9 get in, Adam?

Assuming both Kentucky and A&M don’t win more than 1 game then I think both LSU and Mississippi St are in. I’m prefacing by saying top teams need to take of business in the conference tournaments.
The committee made it a point years ago that conference record mattered and they can’t back off of the 15-15 vs 13-17.

What was LSU’s RPI the year it was left out in favor of MSU?
Posted on 5/19/18 at 8:56 pm to LSURussian
9 teams I think are in right now. Florida, Ole Miss, and Arkansas are national seeds with Georgia on the bubble for a national seed and winning the series is huge for them and a run in the tournament gives them a huge case to be a national seed.
Auburn, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt are locks for the tournament and South Carolina could become a host if they win the tournament in my opinion.
As of right now I think LSU and State are in but I think LSU has more pressure to win than State does. State loses, I think they still like their chances to get in but if LSU loses to State, then we are really sweating on Selection Monday. Kentucky has to make a run to make the tournament in my opinion and it’s really shocking because I thought they were going to be very good this year. Texas A&M is definitely out as of right now and they probably have to at least make it to Saturday in the SEC tourney to have any chance but they’ll probably have to win the whole thing next week.
With that being said, as of right now I have 9 getting in:
1. Florida (National Seed)
2. Ole Miss (National Seed)
3. Arkansas (National Seed)
4. Georgia (Host with chance to be a national seed)
5. South Carolina (On the bubble to host but a lock for a 2 seed)
6. Vanderbilt (Lock for 2 seed)
7. Auburn (Lock for 2 seed)
8. LSU (on the bubble but a 3 seed)
9. Mississippi State (2 or 3 seed, probably 3)
10. Kentucky (outside looking in)
11. Texas A&M (out)

I agree with you.
I remember in 2011 when LSU had an RPI in the 20's, had won 6 out of its last 7 games including 5 out of 6 SEC games, but we had a 13-17 conference record and we got left out of the NCAA tournament.
That was when only 8 teams made the SEC tournament and we finished 9th in the conference thus not making it to Hoover.
