re: Thoughts on the "Drive Like Your Kids Live Here" signs

We had a guy that drove like this on our road when I was younger.
My uncle eventually stood in the middle of the road to make the guy stop and in the ensuing confrontation put a knife to the guys throat.
He stopped speeding on our road.

Is that the same, or different, than the posted speed limit?
Depends on the road. Some roads have fairly appropriate speed limits (Claycut). Some have speed limits that are arbitrarily low (Gardere, Bluebonnet near Nicholson). Some have speed limits that are far higher than traffic conditions ever allow for (Airline Highway). And some roads are in such bad shape due to potholes that driving the speed limit could cause undue damage to my vehicle (Government Street). I am going to take the efficient/safe speed regardless of the speed limit absent it being an area that is an obvious speed trap (Bonne Carre Spillway, Highway 30 in St. Gabriel, etc)

I hate my kids, so that sign might have an unintended effect.

Well that is ridiculous. Actually playing in the street is fricking dumb.
Then where are they supposed to ride bikes? Specifically asking for the kids who are anywheres from 3-6 years old???

They are all over my brothers neighborhood. I driver over them.
The signs, not the kids.

Whenever I see a "blind kid area" sign I always honk to let them know I am driving by.

If the law wasn't so stupid and the neighborhoods so cheap, they would ride them on the sidewalks.
Did you know your child riding a bicycle on a public road without a full driver's license and seatbelt is technically illegal? Obviously, enforcing that would be absurd, but it is the law.

Had a neighbor with one of these when I lived in Nashville. shite annoyed the hell out of me. I was coming home from the bar one night and nailed the shite out of it full speed. They didn't put it up after that.
About OP's sign, the people with kids aren't the ones driving like assholes down your road.
Posted on 5/14/18 at 11:42 am to TDsngumbo
What if instead, you just followed them to their house and kicked their arse?
Not saying that you should, but if you couldn’t do that, then a sign isn’t going to help.

Is your uncle Wayne Higgins?

Yeah, I'm all for going slow. I hate fast drivers. I'm also aware kids will sometimes be in the street. Especially to get to the parks and stuff that I mentioned. These idiots set up shop and literally use the street to play. It's a slightly hilly area and most driveways are not close to level. So they pull all their kids toys out and play in the damned street. I don't care if it's completely residential and relatively low traffic. That's just idiotic.

I don't have those - was just adding to OP. I just stand out in the road with my kids. We live on a loop and there are ppl who drive with their heads up their arse. My 7th grade teacher fly's down this road. She's old and senile though. Shes one that should know better.

I can understand how 30 years of teaching 7th grade could change her viewpoint on slowing down so as not to injure kids.

I don't understand these signs
Do the people driving fast and recklessly even have kids, or are they young renegades?
If they do have kids, and they're driving in the same neighborhood, don't they probably live there?
Just get a sign that says "slow down" instead of one of these weird signs

Justified. People bitch that kids can't be kids anymore and play outside. Spend all their time inside. Well, one reason is assholes driving 85 + on residential streets.

In our case, the hundreds of miles of multi use paths we pay taxes for. I've literally can run for hours without crossing the same piece of pathway twice. No need to play in the street.
And I ride bikes. I realize a real road bike is too fast for those paths. I have no issue with those people riding on the road. But they aren't 3-6 years old with training wheels leaving their damned bike in the middle of the road while drinking their juice box.
