I was against having the young QB's sit behind DE last year because it was a wasted season that could've prepared a starter for this year's team that has a chance.

This year's defense should be better. But even last season, you had to think the offense might take a step back this season (at least personnel-wise). You knew were losing your top two WR and preseason Heisman candidate RB with no one of his caliber waiting in the wings. Could Brennan have made a difference? Who knows? But I think even he somewhat conceded he wasn't ready (both mentally and physically) last season. And frankly, Ogeron wasn't in a position to "trow away a season" in hopes of contending this year. Do you really think the fanbase would have been ok with a 7-5 type season base on a promise that it was a bridge to a better next year? He wen't 9-3 and many people still want him fired.

Fair or not, Ogeron doesn't have the luxury of "rebuilding". He is expected to win NOW. Clearly he's not confident that he can do so with any of the QB's on the roster. But the thought is the 2018 team should be really good on defense; Has a ton of talent at the WR position and MAY be better along the OL (emphasis on "may"). He just doesn't have a QB he thinks can make it work. But if he can find one, MAYBE that is the final piece to making LSU an SEC also-ran to potential contender.

I never like the Ogeron hire. But it doesn't do him any good to "plan for next year" if doing so means he won't be here "next year".

If Jacob Coker won a natty, It’s possible for Burrow’s to do the same.

The defense has been the bright spot for every single preseason that I can recall, at least the last 10 or so seasons. It’s invariably the o line and QB that’s the conversation and concern every single preseason.

So a player who couldn't even win the starting job at a Big 10 program will come to LSU and win the national championship?

what kinda dumbass logic is this? Ohio State is probably the 2nd most talented program in the country over the last 5 years, and we were begging Haskins, the kid who beat out Burrow, to come here two years ago.

Well it turned out that the staff did in fact know exactly what they were doing by starting Etling all year. The New England Patriots agree with them as well.

That's great in all but have we forgotten that we have a shrimp boat captain leading this team? Burrow would be great but it is well known that coach O needs this guy to make it to next year but I just don't have faith no matter who the QB is with him at the helm.

We need to really hit the breaks here.

This guy could be an immense improvement over what we have now and still not be good enough to get us in contention.

To me his whole situation just highlights how bad QB recruiting and development have been for the last 15 years.

3- he doesn't have to be coached up by our coaching staff much

Couple points here.

1. We really don’t if this is true or not. He’s got a good spring game and limited real game action.

2. The fact that we think it’s good that our staff might not need to coach him up is a huge indictment of the current state of LSU football.
