How is this any different than when Rand exercises his own judgment on other confirmations or votes? Some of which this board openly applauds?

Waterboarding is not torture. Eric Holder had to admit that during his confirmation hearing. People seem to forget that. How many were waterboarded....was it 3 or 4??

Rand is trusting media reports of what = 'terrorism'.
One of the banned techniques was putting a big caterpillar in the Muslim's cell and telling him it was poisonous to touch.
This only works with Muslims because they are incredibly ignorant.

1. Torturing Develops bad Intel.
2. Not everyone is guilty.
I get it that you have anger about the goats.
You don't get to torture people just because you are a sadist.

It was Rand Paul. Not sure if he has changed his mind. He's not a fan of torturing terrorists. I am, though. (and I like Rand)
Rand doesn't care. He'll get attention and get his audience with POTUS again and magically become "reassured" that all of the heinous human rights concerns he had are now a non-issue.

He actually said a few months ago he wouldn't vote in favor of confirming her, or Pompeo for CIA director.

frick Rand Paul.
I support waterboarding them with gasoline if it gets information out of them to save American lives.

bullshite.
Torture can lead to unfounded confessions, but when asking for information that the person knows can be checked and if inaccurate lead to more torture, the information will most often be accurate.
That said, waterboarding is not torture.

Are you willing to be subjected to it to support your claim?

This reasoning is dumb. Prison isn't torture either and I'm not going to volunteer for that.

Thats just silly. You seem to think that anything highly unpleasant is "torture"?
But maybe I'm not understanding your point? How do you define torture?

Prison not being torture is an opinion the majority of experts hold. The majority of experts hold water boarding as torture.
There were at least 2 media members that volunteered to be water boarded when this was being deabted back when W was president. Christopher Hitchens was one, and I forget the other(I think he was on Fox News) Both came away convinced it was torture. Sean Hannity also said he'd be water boarded to prove it wasn't torture, but of course he pussied out.

Hitchens would probably claim that withholding cigs from him would be torture. The opinion of a pampered celebrity doesn't hold much weight.
Do you remember the Senate confirmation hearing for Eric Holder and the reason he had to admit that waterboarding wasn't torture?

It's semantics. We all know it sucks. Signatories to CAT are probably convinced that playing loud music and sleep deprivation are torture.
I frankly don't give a shite. I don't want America systematically torturing people without good reason, and that doesn't happen. That said, I want to live in a country where I know our IC will do whatever it possibly can to halt an imminent attack. I think, and hope, that would also happen.

Honestly, I think the bigger issue with Haspel is her overseeing the destruction of evidence in the torture investigation. That will likely be clouded over while we all re-litigate whether water boarding is torture.
