Immoral purposes meaning prostitution, although it was so loosely written as to be flexible, in his case being used to punish Johnson for consorting with white women.
They busted Chuck Berry for it years later.

You normally bring women from other states into your own to get laid?
I presumed that

which made it illegal to transport women across state lines for “immoral” purposes.
Wrong interpretation?

But Chuck actually brought her to St. Louis to work at his club (allegedly as a hooker).

For some reason I'm reminded of the chorus of a late 60's ballad.
They wouldn't let Jack Johnson aboard, they said "this ship don't haul no coal". Fare-the-well Titanic, fare-the-well.

Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson is a documentary by filmmaker Ken Burns...
If anyone wants to hear the full story.

Jack Dempsey was the Babe Ruth of Boxing during that time. Dempsey was selling 80k to 100k tickets making tons of money in exciting fights and savagely KOing fighters that Johnson had boring decisions or losses against. Johnson the person was interesting his fights for the most part were boring. Dempsey while having exciting fights was boring outside the ring. Interesting contrast between the two.

Basically rubbed everyone's face in it. Until The Man decided to take him down.

Melt LIbtard. Trump is proving he isn't racist like all the damn libs say he is.
Because he's going to pardon a black guy that died 75 years ago.
That's humorous.

Not only did he date them, he married them! Even New York socialites!

The only time I ever hear about the Mann Act it always involves a famous black guy crossing state lines with a white woman.

like Al Capone and tax evasion.
Al Capone was making tens of millions of dollars when people were making 1500 bucks per year, and he wasn't paying taxes on it.
Jack Johnson was just dicking white girls, which apparently wasn't against the law, or the charge would have been dicking white girls, instead of the Mann Act. From what I read, he asked for a lot of trouble, and got it. Still shouldn't have been convicted of bullshite like this.

why not???
Because it was bullshite? The girls were of age, or they would have got him for that. He wasn't holding them against their will. Can you imagine hauling your side piece to Vegas only to be charged with the Mann Act? That's essentially what they got him for.
