I know, but he was a commit to LSU for a good chunk of the 2002-2003 recruiting cycle.

The point is, we didn't put all of our eggs in just Robert Lane. We kept recruiting. First with Matt Flynn then with JaMarcus. It was trying to get the best talent together, convince the QBs that were receptive, and then let the competition play itself out.

What resulted was we had a solid QB situation from 2004-2007.

Indeed, that is the point. Made in several different ways.

We're all saying similar in different ways AND we've seen the results from "the guy" style of recruiting. Within reason, the rankings shouldn't say who priorities are. Especially QBs considering the productivity of non-transfer QBs since JJ/Lee.

I'm NOT saying that 3* should take the 5*'s spot. I'm saying, as a recruit, that low 5* and high 4* should be interchangeable for the most part. They are too close in ranking and evaluation to say FOR SURE that the 5* is going to be better than the 4*. It's somewhat of a crapshoot, and you're still better off with the high 4* than nothing.

I don't have any way to prove this, but after seeing Surtain and now Gunnell play out, it seems like O may think that maybe we won't get Gunnell if we begin seriously courting another QB.

If that's the case, that's ridiculous. I don't know why seemingly all of the attention has to be spent on Gunnell. He knows we want him badly, and we could use two QBs in this class anyway. At some point we have to hedge our bets. We're being too desperate.
