You have to consider things relative to eras in exercises like this.
For example, Roger Bannister running 3:59 in 1954 in a full mile in 1954 is more impressive than someone running 3:57 today (the world record is 3:43 by Hicham El Guerrouj).
That being said, I believe Messi is the greatest ever even though I am a Ronaldo fanboy.
