Anybody know someone with Munchausen by proxy?

Basically this is when you fake illnesses in somebody you care for (child, elderly parent, etc) so you can bring attention to yourself.
Chick I went to high school with (you dont want pics) has like 5 kids between ages of maybe 3-10. At least once a week she will post a pic on FB with one of the kids “sick” in bed with caption “Oh no! Bralyn has a fever! Not again. Prayer please that it isnt the flu!”
Of course she gets lots of comments and sympathy emojis
Typically the kid is lying there with a big smile on his face playing on his ipad. Probably loves getting off school because his mom is nuts.

Have you seen Mommy Dead and Dearest on HBO?

There was an infamous case of this in Louisiana - Dee Dee Blanchard and her daughter Gypsy.

It can be for attention, yes, but it can also be because the mother wants to feel needed by the child.
Either way, totally fricked up. The worst example of attention seeking version of this is that girl from Louisiana whose mother faked serious genetic disorders all over the country to get charitable donations. The girl ended up killing the mother and is in jail.
ETA:
Mommy Dead and Dearest as stated (Dee Dee Blancharde).

I was involved in a family law case with this several years ago. It was very disturbing and i wish I could post details.

I know several hypochondriacs that project their shite onto their kids.
Is this what you are talking about?

No. It’s more sick than that.
Munchausens will go out of their way to induce the symptoms as an escalation if you don’t give the desired attention.
The by proxy means they are not above poisoning the individual to play the caring provider role.

In other words, attention.

Oh. Well that is definitely more sinister than the OP's scenario.

Yes cared for a child years ago that we suspected this in the parent.
A nurse caring for that child walked into the room and finally caught the parent shoving a rag into the baby’s mouth so the monitors would alarm and staff would rush in to give the child/parent attention.

Yeah, I don’t think the OP is describing Munchausens, or if it is it is a precursor to it.
It’s just being a plain attention whore.

My wife does special education law and sees some of her clients get accused of this. Generally, the school principal will call CPS and accuse the parent of Munchausen because they have no other valid reason. This is retaliation at it's finest. It is amazing the amount of effort schools and LEAs put into not providing services for children with disabilities than to simply give them the services.
