New OL coach “one of the best offensive line coaches in football”

“He’s going to be known as one of the best offensive line coaches in football if he stays in college that long,” Barskdale said on “After Further Review with Matt Moscona.”
“He’s got the whole package – the film study, he understands theory, he understands technique, he knows how to tailor technique to different players’ strengths and weaknesses. He has multiple ways to solve problems as opposed to one way to do everything. He adapts and he is always cool under pressure. I’m not gonna lie – we’re gonna miss him (with the Chargers.”
quote:
“Yeah, he can recruit,” Barksdale said, laughing. “You think Ed brought him in if he couldn’t? If you’re an offensive line coach, you got to be able to recruit. You’re not coaching the sexiest position. You’ve got to bring something else to the table.”

lol and you got all up in my shite for wanting Grimes replaced.
Cregg is a very good hire. May be looking back and using the word excellent in the future, but that is TBD.
Grimes was good, but not good enough for what we needed. Period.
Cregg is more of a complete package, for lack of a better term. And his strength is where Grimes was weakest in my opinion.
He is adept at noting weaknesses in a OL (as a squad) and quickly either coaching the weakness out of the player and/or compensating. Grimes just wasn't fast enough. The first 4-5 games his OLs were always still finding their groove/gel/mix.
In college, for better or worse, by the start of fall camp you better have 7 OL pretty much lined up, communicating, and gelled (your depth has to function like a starter or the squad falls apart, at times). Then in fall camp you can pick apart the individuals and make adjustments.

I'm all for positivity, but man you are trying too hard.

Not hating on the hire, but if he was that good, he’d still be in the nfl

If he is so great, why was he an ASSISTANT OL coach and not a full-fledged one?

I liked Grimes and still do. It was said that his biggest hindrance was the former coaches influence, including the types of players he recruited.
I think Grimes more than showed his worth this year. Saahdiq Charles was the first true freshman O-line to start the season for LSU since WWII. Charles and Ingram started the majority of the season and Deculus played also.
It's not like they were absolute world-beaters but for the youth on the line I thought they/he did an excellent job.
Hopefully as you say the new guy will really be that much better of an O-line coach. It will make a world of difference for the other offensive players.

I didn't type one word in the OP. It's all copy and paste. I could do it with one eye closed AND one had tied behind my back. Really not that difficult. But thanks !!!

T-DEREK still at it. Gotta admit, you are persistent! I know you get paid to do this but stilk

An offensive line coach hire doesn't override the fact that O is calling the shots on the sidelines. It's scary.

Great interview and a real positive from someone who really knows whether the guy can coach or not. No reason for even the haters to beat up on that.
I thought Grimes did a great job last year in light of working two true FR into starting positions. They seemed to become very competent by mid- to end of the year. Quite an accomplishment for 18-19 year olds playing against some full grown men.
But sounds like we improved at the OL Asst position.

Doesn’t matter. He’ll be flushed with the trash

Yeah he definitely looks like a good hire.
Joe Barksdale wouldn’t trash him regardless but his resume is solid.
The O Line should be really good next year
Some combinations of Charles Traore Brum Cush Ingram Magee and Lewis will work out.
Should be damn good

Come on Ree. When are you going to realize that coach/player speak doesn’t mean shite??
What would you expect a player to say about his former coach that is now at his Alma mater?

if we are dominant in the trenches with a great d and real qb play, we have a good chance every game
