Your understanding of physics is sorely lacking. It takes a lot of fuel to create the inertia to escape the Earth’s gravitational pull. By launching from the moon you avoid that extra fuel expenditure and stress on the ship. This makes travel to more distant planets infinitely more possibly.
How does the fuel get to the moon for the launch?

The fuel would come from ice on the moon. Split it into hydrogen and oxygen to power rockets. I’m not saying it is a cost effective approach because it’s not, but that’s where it would come from I believe. The complexity and weight of everything needed to start a mining operation for it is far more expensive than just launching from earth with extra fuel.

That's the point I was making. We know how expensive it is to build these rockets on earth and how much material and manpower it requires. Imagine the cost to get it all done on the moon (and for little to no real benefit).

There’s benefit. Imagine all the inspiration.

Another unmanned mission that’s going to bring a lot of science and discovery, the Mars 2020 mission. Here’s engineers at JPL working on it:
Mars 2020
Mars 2020 is a Mars rover mission by NASA's Mars Exploration Program with a planned launch in 2020.[1] It is intended to investigate an astrobiologically relevant ancient environment on Mars, investigate its surface geological processes and history, including the assessment of its past habitability, the possibility of past life on Mars, and potential for preservation of biosignatures within accessible geological materials

Really the best thing that could ever happen is the Chinese landing on the Moon. You can bet your arse someone would be walking on Mars within the decade if that were to occur
people forget that we went to the moon not because we were uber scientific or had dreams of a true space age but because we were at war with the Soviet Union . Once we won, all significant funding went away. War is over, therefore we don't need to spend any more money.
Look up the YouTube video "we stopped dreaming" with ND Tyson.
