I find that hard to believe about 10 Cloverfield Lane unless there was some other reason they went into that bomb shelter
It's easy to Google. The script was out in Hollywood for awhile and had a lot of interest. Bad Robot et al picked it up and added the Cloverfield part at the end.
The purpose of the original script was to be a psychological thriller where you didn't know if the guy (Goodman) was telling the truth or not. It's almost obvious the Cloverfield part was tacked on. The movie works with or without the Cloverfield ending though.
I enjoyed it.

Clover field ending made it worse IMO. That movie would have been fantastic if it just ended after Goodman died and she made it out. Just take out the alien shite and have her driving away in the middle of the country, not knowing if what he said was true
I did enjoy the movie. I just don’t think it needed the clover field part, or that it added anything

i wish the movie wasn't called 10 clover field lane. how awesome would it have been if they reveal it's clover field at the end with the mailbox

What clover field part exactly?
The film would have been so much better as a franchise entry if they didn’t add the clues mid movie indicating it was in the same universe.
The fact that they did....well you are left trying to figure out the time line.
What, was her accident before the attack on New York so in isolation missed all that fun, and after a mutant sea monster has its way with the military, a full scale alien invasion occurs?

I never saw the original Cloverfield, and I agree that the tacked-on ending to 10 Cloverfield Lane lessened (though it did not ruin) what was otherwise a very tense psychological thriller.
Since the filmmakers obviously love to think they’re clever with the semi-veiled references to the Cloverfield franchise, I fully expect them to change the name of this upcoming movie from Overlord to Cloverlord.

I will say they definitely have gone a different direction than when the first one wrapped up.
I recall Matt Reeves riffing that he was thinking of forming the original sequel around the guy you see with camera on the bridge in the first one, and that would be some sort of intersecting scene. Basically, same night, different viewpoint.
Instead we're getting a sort of anthology thing going where the movies may share a background theme but may not even be the same timeline. It's interesting I guess but with all the viral work for Cloverfield it would have been nice to flesh out that universe.
