He understands how dependent Alabama is on the federal dole. Unlike Martha Roby and Mo Brooks who voted FOR the shutdown in 2013 despite the federal government being the largest employer in their districts!

There were a handful of Dems who Schumer allowed to vote for the resolution. I think all of them are in red states. If they Schumer needed their votes, they would have voted with him.
