There is a difference between the general public and the educated/MAGA public, which, unfortunately, is only about 40% of the voting population. Over half will blame the Republicans because 99.7% of the the media will blame the Republicans.

This will hurt the Dems no matter how they try to spin it. Shutting down government, although the perception is much worse than reality, for people who are in this country illegally is not going to sit well with voters.
Dems have far more seats in congress and states that they will have to defend in areas where Trump won big.
