Canada’s stats and overall record as an OC dictates otherwise
How many games did we have without a WR catching a pass? Ensminger STILL delivered the #1 WR in the country

Ensminger is just one of the straw dog that O-haters embrace.
1) Canada is gone, so far speculative BS.
2) If Canada is gone Ensminger is OC because:
A) O wants him, yet O didn’t hire him last OC opening.
B) O can’t hire a good OC, yet he hired Canada and retained Aranda twice.
C) No good OC will come because of O, yet Aranda stayed and Canada came.

There's a difference between being high on him and not melting over the possibility he gets hired. I'd rather we hire a younger up and coming OC, but I don't think the job he did as interim OC was so horrendous to suggest that he can't do the job.

I very much appreciate steve's contributions last year and his recruiting (which I understand is solid).
but permanent OC? no.
but permanent OC? no.

He’s a terrible OC. But good recruiter and TE coach

There have been plenty of O’s strongest defenders here pumping Ensminger.

You’re totally correct.

There’s disagreement about whether O was talking about just the bowl game or permanently, but he DID mention Ensminger himself. Media didn’t help matters by taking that to mean permanently if that’s not what he meant. I don’t know.
The last OC opening, the narrative from LSU and O was “get the best coordinators in the nation.” That’s not Ensminger.

You made a decent point, but you took it too far. Keeping Aranda is great, but it’s not “going out and hiring a coordinator.”
As to the hiring Canada part, I agree if:
The rumors about an altercation between O and Canada prove to be false. Plus, O admitted to meddling in Canada’s offense after saying he wouldn’t. If true, a suitor would likely consider those things when being courted by LSU. Possibly a different situation than last year.
2(C) is a repeat of 2(B). See above.

LSU needs a complete offensive philosophy change, to be successful and to beat Bama. The offense should be geared towards beating Alabama. It has been proven that LSU can beat other teams with a putrid offense, but there has been no chance against Bama. Ensminger is not some offensive genius or innovative mind that will attack Bama's weakness, rather than play to their strengths. We need an offense that doesn't play so defensive all the time. The offensive players are on scholarship too and should be counted on at some point to win a game. Do you trust Ensminger to orchestrate that plan, because I don't. He only had success against teams that we could rush against easily. If the defense stopped the run, then the game was over. That brand is just so old and stale. Offensive recruits would love a big splash hire also.

Don’t you think he would have some clue what tweaks could be made before he started?
You do understand that by mid season most teams have a set number of plays they run effectively right? You can't just load up the game plans with new plays.

Who, exactly, that matters is 'high' on Ensminger?

Liked the concept. :)
But no, not even TM7 is high on Ensminger.

I’m just waiting to see if they’re actually dumb enough to make SE the OC.
You do realize the clown driving this bus is Alleva, right? And did you see who he gave the Head Coaching job too last year?...Thats right, the D-Line coach. So dont hold your breath as you wait to see if "they" are actually that dumb. Because they are.

He's a good TE coach, he is a good all around offensive coach. He is also a good recruiter.
he has been a valued member of many staffs.
He does not call the plays or gameplan by himself. He does not have complete control of our TE productivity.
Hope that helps you understand.

I literally know nobody who is high on Ensminger as OC...... Including Ensminger.
OP is a fool.

but if we can hammer a WR coach for WR's not getting separation then why can't we bring scrutiny to a TE coach for poor TE play?
The ONLY poor TE play we have seen are the drops by our TEs..... That falls on the WR coach.
TE have been great blockers (as you noted) and have consistently known their assignments. That is on the TE coach.
Catching is something that ... Well, some people just never learn.

Dude just delivered the #1 WR in the country without a competent OC
Not sure about the competent characterization, but considering Canada's status being uncertain and Jimbo/Craig pushing hard for him it's pretty impressive Marshall chose LSU.
I had begun to mentally prepare for him to flip to A&M in the final days. Ensminger being his recruiter deserves a lot of credit for that. Marshall's announcement was amazing as well. I don't normally watch, but happened to catch it on facebook and the kid seems like a very mature, classy young man who is destined for great things.

Who's high on him? I just think some arent as negative as others
Posted on 1/4/18 at 1:15 pm to RogerTheShrubber
I am high on him, just not necessarily as the OC. I believe he is a great coach who bleeds purple and gold. I appreciate the job that he did under difficult circumstances last year and I do believe that given time to develop his own offense, he would make a fine OC. HOWEVER, perception matters, and I think it would be a bad PR move to promote from within right now. Fair or not, as long as questions remain about Coach O's abilities as a HC, the coordinators have to be proven, A list hires.
Side note, I think it would actually be a better use of our staff to have the TEs split time with the line and WR coaches, drop the TE coach position, and have a true Special Teams coach and a QB coach. Not having a ST coach this year was a questionable move that bit us in the arse.

The offense did set records last year when he was at the helm.
Posted on 1/4/18 at 1:58 pm to Not Cooper
I totally am not judging him on te production(catches/tds), they don't and haven't utilized the te at LSU for many years. If their blocking/techniques would be bad I'd think differently about Steve. I'm not wanting ensminger as OC but I will say he put up some pretty good numbers for the situation he was in last year except for Bama game where he laid an egg.

Compare his 2016 games’ stats that utilized a first time QB and minimally experienced WRs to 2017. His 2016 play calling had 10% more passing and resulting in >4 points/game more scoring-against tougher opponents.
BTW, he’s the OC; get used to it.
