Can’t someone summarise the Austin thomas saga for me?

Haven’t followed except that he left LSU for UT and now has no job.
How did this play out?

Resigns position at LSU, accepts at UT. "Allegedly" he thought he was getting authority over the coaching staff at UT. UT was like, "I don't know who the frick told you that."
Now he's unemployed. The end.

Easy.... trust no one and never leave a job without securing the next one.

As smart as he's suppose to be, it's hard to believe there's not more to this story than just taking a job and hoping to work out the details later

There has to be an agent screwup somewhere in here.

This reminds me of the co founder of Facebook pretty much signing his shares away and had no clue about it until it was too late. Atleast that’s how it was in the movie.

Yeah, and this reportedly all went down amicably. Like it was just some minor misunderstanding. No biggie.
I suppose it really could be much ado about nothing, but it doesn't add up to me.

Tennessee admin = dumb
Tennessee and LSU admin combined = dumb and dumber

Seems like Austin is the dumb one seeing as he has no job.

I’d be interested to know who gave Austin the idea he was going to be given as much power as he seemed to assume he was getting

Yeah man it just seems funny to me that these two admins end up in a situation like this.
All we heard last week was how Alleva and O made a great pitch to keep him but he just couldn’t turn down the opportunity to go home.
But he didn’t even know what the deal at UT was??
Yeah Austin looks dumb too and UT is just an joke at this point but it appears pretty embarrassing that we supposedly couldn’t keep a guy on staff in an imaginary bidding war with ourselves.

I would guess Currie had this deal ironed out since we heard Thomas was leaving weeks beforehand. Maybe Phil said he would honor the deal, not knowing what exactly has been promised from a job description perspective. Anyway, it's a total clusterfrick, whatever happened.

I'm sure it was just football recruiting and administration. (Like at LSU)

You know it’s going to be a shite show when Alleva and the UT admin are both involved.

So did we get screwed by Tenn’s incompetence or not?

Go find the thread of Dell’s article talking about how LSU did everything they could to keep him but when Momma calls you have to answer.
Again, we supposedly made some great pitch and AT turned it down without even knowing what the offer was at UT?
Just shows how appealing the guys making the pitch may seem to those with other options. Or maybe it shows that no real pitch was made at all but Delly did Prince’s bidding as usual and wrote it up to make the admin look good and the fans feel better about him leaving, which is even more troubling on many levels.
It doesn’t look great to me, but whatever.

quote:How does that reflect poorly on LSU? AT looks awful, this supposed sooper genius future NFL GM can't read a contract or get an offer in writing. UT looks like they perhaps negotiated in bad faith.

LSU is the only one that handled the situation like they should have. Should Orgeron have reviewed AT's offer from UT?
ETA after your edit

Either they made an effort to keep him or they didn't.
If they did and AT was so set on leaving that he turned them down without even knowing what the offer at UT was, AT looks dumb but it also shows that the situation in the admin just may not be that appealing at the moment to those with other options.
If they didn't, which would be troubling in and of itself, and the local media is just printing out whatever our admin tells them to to keep the fans sedated then yes that is even more troubling.
What don't you follow about this?

What is wrong with you people? This guy has left LSU twice, and he left the second time with about 10 days to go in the early signing period. You people act like the program is going to fold.
I'm sure Austin Thomas is good at his job. But there are other people who can fill the role. If you want to get upset that Alleva still has his job or that Orgeron is the head coach of LSU, I have no problem with that and I'm with you there on both counts. But don't melt over some barely 30-something who is a staffer. He's not the only guy that organize a recruiting effort.
As far as I'm concerned, good riddance to Austin Thomas. The fact he left without having the Tennessee job completely secured shows incredibly bad judgment so the guy isn't perfect. He bailed with less than a week left, and that's as bad as Chavis working for A&M before his LSU employment was completely finished. When you consider how much Orgeron has vouched for him at three different stops, he owed Orgeron at least a little more than leaving 10 days before the first signing period.
