Perfectly in line with the ironic nature of my TD handle, I have come down with Bell's Palsy for the 2nd time in 5 years. Last time was about 4.5 years ago on the right side of my face. This time it's the left side of my face.

--90% paralysis (can twitch my mouth and close my eye)
--can't close my left eye by itself
--half my tongue is numb
--half of what I drink ends up on my shirt

hate to hear that, man. It seems that bells palsy is a lot more common than most people think....two people that work with me have had it over the last several years. Flat scares the shite out of most people when they get it because not a lot of people know what it is...

FWIW A close friend was diagnosed with this by several Doctors. Turned out it was a pea sized tumor on the brain stem.

I had the same thing a couple years back. First bout on right side. Scared the hell out of me. Thought I was having a stroke or something. Couldn’t close my eye all the way, couldn’t smile, etc. Felt very self- conscious

About a year after that I had it on my left side. Not nearly as severe but still significant. I wasn’t quite as self-conscious that episode. But it still sucked.

I’m hoping here’s not a third episode, but each time you have it, I’ve read the chances of you having a subsequent episode increas about 50%.

Make sure you get some steroids. Though if you can close your eyes fully even with effort, good chance it'll fully recover.

No hearing loss/dizziness, correct?

What I hated when I had mine was my taste buds went dead on one side of my tongue. Things tasted very differently.

Wow. I'm going through my 1st bout with it now on right side of my face. I'm 6 days in. On steroids and trying to protect my eye. I can't close my eye by itself at all and my taste buds are gone on that side. It's really embarrassing and sucks

I had it develop about 15 months ago. I have significant improvement but still have lasting effects. At least I can close both eyes now and drink out of a straw. It sucked taking showers and getting water and shampoo in my eye.

Lucky, I’ve dealt with it too. I haven’t had it appear in about 13 years thankfully, but it’s painful and it sucks. God speed to you sir. Hope you get better soon
