This bothers me and I see it a lot. The only explanation can be that they hadn't thought about using light speed that way yet, or it had never been done before. It seems far fetched, but that's the only thing that would make sense. Commercial planes were invented a long time ago but were never hijacked and used in a kamikaze style to take out whole buildings until 16 years ago. Why hadn't this been done several years before?

In a galaxy of hundreds of trillions, no one has thought of that? If they know that E=MC^2 they should have thought of that.

A) The Japanese have shown that you can do just that.
B) It requires being a suicidal mass murderer, which those are few and far between.

In a galaxy as big as Star Wars and with as many ships being flown it would’ve happened by accident by this point.
