"What would you compare it to?"
It's edgy feel makes me think "Deadwood" from HBO.....

Deadwood was one of the best Western TV shows ever. Torn about it ending so soon but then if it didn't then we would Not have had Justified.

I felt they drew pretty heavily from Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. Jeff Daniels's gang and the whole "godless country" theme is straight out of Blood Meridian.
Not a bag thing though, I loved the show. It drew great elements from all over the western genre and had some original ideas as well. Just really well done overall.

Some shades of The Quick and the Dead In there as well. That kid deputy sheriff reminded me a lot of DiCaprio’s character. They both have a little bit of girl power in them, too.

Not sure how they do a season 2 unless there is a completely different storyline and antagonist out in California. I could maybe see Alice and the boy joining him out there, they at least knew where he was headed.

It's a limited series so I think it was just his one season/story. Which I like; I'm getting tired of aimless tv series that keep meandering without a concise beginning-end for the sake of just having content.

They put a bow on everything except the brother. He said in the letter something along the lines of you wouldn’t believe what I’ve become. I thought for a minute that priest that showed up was going to be him.

I ran into a snag that I didn't like but I feel the rest of the show is going to be just fine. The episode where we see interracial couple, lesbians, black empowerment, and so forth. So far, I feel like the town full of women and all the men dying to be a thing just put in to build talk. It has not done anything for the movie so far.
I'm really liking the show though. Marshall scene in the bar was shocking.

No need for season 2.
ps i would love to see one off episode about the blackdom fighters back in the day
Yeah I think the only direction they could possibly go for a 2nd season would be a prequel of sorts.
-Blackdom/Buffalo soldiers
-Alice's time with the Indians
-The town before the mining tragedy
-The Sheriff and his seemingly amazing wife
-How Frank's posse was formed
The last 7 minutes or so of the final episode is unbelievable, and that score for the sequence is one of the best I've listened to for a Tv series.
