a stand you plan on hunting again soon is not generally a good idea.
Pretty limited on where I can hunt so the stands and trees I get in get frequent revisiting. Between the raccoons, hogs, buzzards and bob cats I've never had a pile of innards last more than a day or so.

You got to get up on the wheeler then pull it up there.
Last year was doing this on my Ranger, as I was sliding him iup the pressure built up and eventually reopened the entry wound..I had hit it far back angling away.
The brownish red corn filled liquid that shot out was so stinky it made your eyes water. It shot out and hit my then six year old right in his chest. I laughed till I almost passed out at the look on his face.

I winch them up into the bed. 2500 pound winch is bolted to the bottom of the rack over the bed.

I tie the head to the rack and then grab the hips and put it up there. Then untie head and adjust it so it rides good. Tie it back down.
I short piece of para cord does the trick. Easy peazy.

quote:I learned how to do this when I was the only one at the camp. Problem was, it took me about 45 minutes and about 9 failed other methods before I figured it out. I almost threw up. I tried getting the legs caught up in the rack. I tried pulling him over a small tree with a rope but had no pulley. Would have made for a pretty funny fail video.
195lb Buck

Kinda like me having sex.
Usually with a lot of grunting, cussing and awkward positions.

I live in Louisiana. The deer are all sub 200lbs. Just pick them up.

I usually gut them where they fall if I can’t drive my truck close. Everything does in the woods. Piles of guts don’t bother them, nor last 24 hrs

Buddy keeps some rope and a small snatch block on his four wheeler.
Throw rope to hold snatch block over a limb. Pull block up and tie off rope.
Back 4 wheeler up to the area and lift using the block and rope. Lower onto 4 wheeler and the lower block back down.
He's older and has had some surgeries.
One of the ultra light chainfalls in a klien type bag to store the chain etc would work. He like the block as the ropes are lighter than all that chain.

Get the head up over the foot rest. Stand up on the back rack, squat down and grab the horns. Try not to blow out a nut while pulling him up the seat.
Anything over 180 or so, this is exactly how I do it. For smaller deee just grab all 4 legs best I can and power clean his arse

the situation warrants it, sure. But having a big steamy pile of guts laying out by a stand you plan on hunting again soon is not generally a good idea.
I understand this logic but it's without truth in reality, I like to put trail cams on gut piles and almost every time you'll get a deer checking it out at some point.

I do

I went To wal mart and bought a cheap hitch hauler. Easy 8 inch lift. He may get muddy but it’s no problem loading a big one. 2 heavy duty bungee cords and we all set for an easy drive back to the skinning rack.

people here deadlift 600, squat 500 and bench 400 and can't put a 150lb deer on a 4 wheeler.

In reality it's 100% true that I don't want a gut pile in my food plot. Especially when I have a motorized buggy to carry the deer out and a skinning shed with an appropriate placed gut pile a few minutes away.
