Well I guess selective memory goes both ways.

Everyone seems to think Texas last drive was awesome.

Young threw a dumbass pass that should have been intercepted but was just batted down instead by the USC defender.

And once again the game could have been ended by a bad USC defense on a 4th down at the very end.

The stats for the game are almost exactly the same with USC having 20 more yards of offense and 1 more turnover.

That was the difference in the game.

But selective memory is that Texas and VY were just too awesome. Which is the exact opposite of how the game played out.
Jesus fricking Christ.

Dude, rewatch the game.

There's this mythology that Vince Young was Superman and USC had no chance.

USC had more yards, etc.

But they had 1 more costly turnover and a lot of bad coaching decisions and missed opportunities.

And Vince Young almost threw away the game on that final drive that nobody seems to remember.

Texas didn't dominate USC - they had basically equal stats and USC had the extra turnover and some stupid play calls and that was the difference. If USC had stopped VY on 4th and 5 or had gained a 1st down on 4th and 2 everyone would say...dominate victory USC...but Texas wins and its remembered as some VY was unstoppable...Texas scored about half their season average against a mediocre defense.

The team he was unstoppable against was the year earlier, Michigan.
