It fits the trend for past successful hires in the sece, poaching a saban lieutenant. He'll eagerly take the chance because he is ambitious. Jeremy Pruitt named next week

I could see it if they miss on a few of their top choices.

UT is a dumpster fire if there wver was one. Why risk a career on it?

From the coordinator ranks Steele will be the #1 option. Especially if auburns D does well against bama this wknd.

IF? You mean when?
I see him as a good fit actually. They need SOME identity. They would immediately get one with him. People would be jumping off buildings but they can and will probably do far worse.

If Tennessee is going to hire an assistant coach then they should-would hire Tee Martin. I'm pretty sure the Tennessee powers that be are dead set on hiring a "proven HC". But the OP bringing up Coach Pruitt's name does make me wonder why his name is not being mentioned more?

Depends on what Gruden thinks of Pruitt as a defensive coordinator, but yeah he could do a lot worse.

I think so too.

Cooter as OC is the word on the street. 2 million to run the offense.

Eh, Saban tree is kind of spotty though right? On one hand you have Jimbo, Dantonio, and an early in his career Kirby.
On the other you have Mac, Champ, Haywood, and Dooley.

Mac won 2 SECe titles. UT would give anything for that right now. Champ has USCe trending. In all honesty, seems the UF culture is a violent cesspool. Too much fun and too much gun and not enough disciplined football.
Pruitt coached under saban, jimbo and richt, so pretty good pedigree there.
kevin steele will be 60. i don't see him taking a head job at this point in his career.

Tamaurice Martin as OC by title and King Jon's right hand ace recruiter

Steele's tenure as head coach at Baylor will probably keep him from landing any real desirable head coaching jobs. It was really bad, including the infamous loss to UNLV in his first game trying to get a late score rather than taking a knee. He'd probably have to take a lower level head coaching job, and succeed, before getting a chance at a big job.

Fair enough, also have to consider than Champ went and refined for a year under Gus, having a second look at how to run a program I'm sure is beneficial.
I honestly don't know why people aren't all over Durkin. He has spent his entire career in the Harbaugh and Meyer tree, I get that his second season at Maryland hasn't been great but that's a major rebuild so was to be expected.

Please elaborate if you can

Baylor was up by less than a touchdown, with only seconds left, and around the UNLV five yard line. Steele wanted to get a TD to make a statement; instead, the Baylor RB gets stripped and UNLV returns it the length of the field for the game winning TD (as time ran out, IIRC). It all went downhill from there. The Baylor fans still refer to him as "Kevin Steal."
