NBC: More sponsors threatening to pull ads from NFL games

Yaccarino … if you continue covering the political coverage of the issue, we will not be part of the NFL,” she said. “Because think about it: they have half the country that is cheering about that, and they have half the country that is emailing them, saying, don’t do that. So that’s a real thing.”

She noted that prior to the controversy, which started last season when then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began to kneel during the national anthem, “most” NFL games didn’t broadcast the anthem, aside from big games like the Super Bowl. “The story has morphed dramatically, from social injustice to patriotism,” said Yaccarino. “While I don’t think there’s any way you could ever really prove it, I do think it has impacted the ratings.”
And of course CBS gonna CBS
quote:
CBS CEO Les Moonves said he had observed no hesitation from NFL sponsors. “I don’t know of one sponsor that has pulled out of any spot that they had, Moonves reportedly said. “I don’t think it’s affecting advertising or their desire one iota.”
Somebody might want to bring to his attention

CBS usually dominates the ratings from September to May, but NBC has won 12 of the last 14 weeks

I don't know if many major sponsors will back out of their NFL spots because it's still a popular market. I think it will, however, give them some leverage during contract renewal to get some cheaper rates.

If the NFL and its players didn't double down on stupid, they wouldn't be having this issue. Watching the Saints's response to the Navy Vet and players acting like a fool on Twitter doesn't help their cause nor does getting busted for lying on video about a racist incident, impersonating a dog, running across a field to get into a fight. That's just one year.
They haven't learned who pays the bills and angering a large group of your customers is never the thing to do in business.

USAA needs to pull, it would shock the NFL

What the NFL failed to realize is that people would discover how much time they wasted in front of a TV watching CTE affected morons
These people wont come back.
And once Fantasy football loses its attraction, many diehard sports fans will go back to just watching their local favorites, rather than the entire package of league games

I’ve replaced NFL Sunday’s with the Andy Griffith show. I’m actually a lot happier now.

As a long-time USAA user, I'm going to try to remember to call them and advise them to do just that.

I get irritated every time I see a USAA commercial...how much money have I lost out of my Subscriber's Savings Account due to advertising?

Indeed, they provide good service to an easily identifiable market reached in less expensive ways, their television advertising sucks.

i am willing to bet that if you polled NFL fans nationally, they'd care much much more about the kneeling than they do about the issues you mentioned. Probably 7 or 8 out of 10 would be more upset about the kneeling than players being players.

leverage
Winner Winner. Sponsors aren't going anywhere but they have leverage which hasn't existed for a solid 20 years of increasing NFL popularity.

NFL TV Partners Set To Lose Up To $500 Million On Ratings Decline
quote:
As Roger Goodell, Jerry Jones, and the NFL engage in an ugly internal fight over the future leadership of the NFL, TV partners at CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC are staring at their own internal conflicts — namely a substantial decline in NFL ratings that is on pace to cost the four networks up to $500 million in lost revenue.
