I would guess that your spending habits are much different than the majority of weathly people in this world.
Did they get rich by being cheap fricks in the take out line?

Don't know. Just going with what the Department of Labor says
You're reading that link wrong. It is analyzing how tipped employees are paid relative to their state minimum wage, not the federal minimum wage.
If a cash employee fails to meet the lowest threshold - the federal minimum wage - them he/she must be subsidized up to that point.

That's how I read it. Maybe something got lost in translation.

If it's a nice place tip a couple bucks for them boxing it up and keeping it warm for you.
If it's pizza or Chinese food then don't

I always figure the person putting the order together is a good one to have on my side. A well packed order with proper silverware, napkins, sauces, etc... and organized so there arent spills is good for a buck or two in my book. Should be a given but I can spare a dollar here and there
The food should already be put together by the time I get there. If it's not ready, then I really have no reason to tip. Look, I get that working in the food service industry sucks. Which is why I always tip my servers, bartenders and delivery drivers. But I'm not going to tip the person who's basically doing what a cashier does in a grocery store.

Yeah, but the OT baws have bass boats and $50K trucks to pay for. They can't shell out the $2 for that take out order. Hell, the $1 for the Sonic girl is pushing it on their budget.

Usually, the host or hostess is going to be responsible for packaging everything up for you, making sure you have plastic forks/napkins, etc. after it comes out of the kitchen.

Actually, that's probably not far from true. The people with the most money tend to be very tight with it.

Because it's true.

Employers should just pay their employees adequately and we could simplify things by eliminating the whole top situation.
Evidence suggests that job performances isn’t even a major determining factor in how much one is tipped.

Do stock boys get paid $2.13/hour those lowering the cost of the purchase?

Not my experience. Most wealthy people I know are frugal but not when it comes to paying other people.

I pay girls to talk to me to. Pro tip: if you do it over the phone you can jack off too.

Yeah, but then we'd have to listen to all the OT poors complain why its so expensive to eat out. Restaurant profit margins aren't high. They are able to make money through the tipping system.

Don't forget taking the order and checking it. You guys act like fricking ballers until it is time to tip. We all know more than a few of you make cracks about black people tipping too.

This seems logical to me but when I compare menu items here (WA), where the servers are being paid $15 an hour, to places with more traditional tip wages they come out about the same. It doesn't make sense to me because I would think our prices would be higher.

I follow the European model. I refuse to give into the US's bs tip culture, only place in the world to have it. I'm not going to support the owner's role in paying their employees a sustainable wage.

In case I go back. They still expect their tips.
