so, losing to Troy early, with most of the Dline out and Giuce out also, outweighs beating an unbeatable Bama and a #1 UGA team, both in their backyard to become the SEC champ?

There's no doubt that in your hypothetical scenario, LSU would have a legitimate argument to make it into the CFP, because that resume' would have some very improbable wins. But the one improbable and inexcusable loss would have us playing in a NY6 bowl.

I can't see a playoff appearance for LSU this year at all unless the top two were two loss teams and everyone else in the nation had three or more losses. I can't see Alabama, Georgia, TCU or Clemson finishing with more than one loss. But it's been a weird season so who knows.
