Thanks to everyone who has thoughtfully responded. I was just thinking about it today and was curious others rationale behind it. I agree that for a young team and a new coach, as long as we learn from the loss and rarely (or never) see their like again, then the wins do overcome it. I see both sides though. Its an interesting question where for most people, the outcome is directly correlated to the situation.
I guess 2007 is the best example of that scenario. We suffered two terrible losses, yet we won a national championship. Had we not gotten to play for the title, I can’t imagine what the backlash would have been. For most people, the wins overcame the losses because we played for the title. For some folks, they still don’t give Les credit for that championship. Or if they do, still use it as an argument against him that he was the luckiest sob ever.
Thanks again for all of the clever and well thought out perspectives. Nice to have some thought and dialogue every once in a while in this place ??
